ORLANDO WINNER FORMAT ANNOUNCED

Orlando’s World Street Nationals promoter Carl Weisinger believes his event is too prestigious to end without a defined winner. That’s why he’s making steps to ensure that in the possibility the event couldn’t be completed that a plan is in place to crown a winner.

Every run will count is Weisinger’s motto and plan.

“Thanks to great car owners, drivers, crew and spectators this has become the event to enter and to win,” Weisinger said. “Just entering makes a statement, qualifying in such great fields of cars is an accomplishment and winning literally immortalizes one in the circle of door slammer drag racing enthusiasts.  Certainly, at least one full round of qualifying and a full eliminations program to determine a winner is the minimum we would like to see. “However, in the unlikely event eliminations would be halted on Sunday and could not be completed on Monday there needs to be a fair way to determine winners.  Anything less than a conclusion in the normal single eliminations format is not the first choice for anyone.”

In 15 years of running the World Street Nationals in Orlando, eliminations have been run through the finals on Sunday 13 times, postponed to Monday and run through the finals once, and winners determined by previous round performances once.

“In all cases, every dollar posted has been paid and all awards have been presented at the event or delivered to those earning them,” Weisinger said. “This will be the policy in the future for the World Street Nationals.  This system is not without precedent. Class winners in Stock and Super Stock at NHRA National Events have been determined this way when circumstances have cut those contests short.”

The 2008 REAL World Street Nationals is scheduled for October 30 - November 2.
