Hagan had an outside chance to win what could be the final IHRA Nitro Funny Car crown, and the opportunity evaporated with a double loss to eventual champion Terry Haddock.

Hagan lost the second place ranking as well when he oiled down the track leading officials to dock points from his final tally.

"I want to congratulate Terry Haddock and Andy Kelley for a great season," says Matt Hagan. "It was awesome racing with them and competing for the championship."

The opportunity was lost for Hagan.

He’s quickly learned when one door closes another opens.

Hagan will make the transition over the NHRA Full Throttle Series in 2009 and plans to run the full 24-race schedule.

"Our goal is to run the full NHRA Nitro Funny Car schedule," says Hagan."We've got several different options right now for 2009 and we are just going to have to evaluate each one and make a decision about what's best for this race team."
