The PMRA Champion will return for 2009.
 
Winner of the 2008 Pro Modified Racing Association season, Hamilton, Ontario’s Bruce Boland, plans to return to PMRA racing next year.
 
“I plan to run in the PMRA next year,” Boland said earlier this week. “I’m going to show Brown (Terry) how to win three years in a row,’ he added with a smile. “And with three different cars.”
  The PMRA Champion will return for 2009.

Joking aside, the driver of the B&B Racing Corvette Pro Modified, who won his second consecutive title in the PMRA Point Award Series Championship sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated, sold his car, and plans to return to the PMRA circuit in the ex-Hammer Racing 1967 Chevy Nova of fellow competitor Larry Sinke. Boland purchased the car and parts after Sinke announced his retirement from racing.
 
Boland said he plans to run some ADRL and Super Chevy events along with the PMRA in 2009. He also mentioned Mark Dochstader, who has been helping the team in the past, will be assuming a larger role for 2009.
 
Boland has been with the PMRA since its inception over four years ago, and his only event win came at Lancaster Raceway Park in 2005. Boland placed ninth in points in 2006. In 2007 he won his first title in his 1953 Corvette, and for 2007 built a new 1963 Corvette-bodied Pro Modified with one of Carl Spiering’s ERD (Engine Research & Development) 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson Hemi engines. He has kept this powerplant for use in the Nova.
 
While Boland did not win any events in 2008, he always qualified well. At the season opener at New York International Raceway Park, he qualified second in the field, and went to the final against Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York. Due to scheduling issues, Boland and Stawicki shared the top prize.
 
Boland qualified number five at Dunn Tire Raceway Park, and was eliminated in the semi-final by Mike Cusimano of Rochester, New York. After qualifying fourth at Sanair, Boland was taken out in semi-final action by Jack Grainy of North Tonawanda, NY.
 
For the two rain-delayed and rescheduled Cayuga Dragway events, Boland qualified number five for the KC Auto Family Day event, and went down in the semi to Stawicki. And for the Cayuga Victoria Day event, he qualified fourth, and once again was taken out by Stawicki in the semi-final.
 
Boland said he’ll be back, “doing the same thing next year.” He also had nothing but praise for his fellow Pro Modified racers.
 
“The guys in the series are good guys,” he said. “I love racing with them. “When you need help or parts, everyone pitches in and helps. It’s a great laid-back atmosphere.”
 
Boland and the rest of the team will be honored at the upcoming PMRA Champions Banquet on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at The Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel in the Oak Room in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
