DEMORY SAYS GOODBYE TO DRAG RACING

http://www.competitionplus.com/07_15_2004/photos/saturday_cayuga_demory.jpgChuck DeMory has long been a friend of CompetitionPlus.com (when he's not trying to prove to us he used to be a boxer) and wanted to share a goodbye with his fellow competitors and friends. After a drag racing career spanning decades, he's selling everything and walking away from IHRA Pro Stock, and drag racing. We're honored to carry his goodbye.

See ya later Chuck, we'll miss intimidating you with our presence.

Hey Guys and Gals.

I know I have said this many times in the past but I am finally hanging it up.  I will miss all the friends I made out there and would like to thank each of you for being patient with some of my good and some of my bad jokes.  It has been great lining up with you.

Congrats to Pete and Cheryl for another great championship.  Great try chasing him in Jeff-maybe next year.  Monte and Lois – keep plugging, 2009 will be your year.  Meatball- what kind of fuel did you have in that car at Rockingham – must be rocket fuel.  Hope you get another ride, maybe with a sane owner this time.  Elijah – stop looking in the other lane, still bad sportsman habits.  Cary – let your Dad show you how to chop down that tree.  Bertsch- stay off that limiter and you will beat them all.  Robert – quit smoking, forget 10.5, and stay with the group.  Freeman- stop manhandling that car, make off it’s a sweet young thing that needs to be caressed. You must be taking steering lessons from Bruno.  Brian- get your enthusiasm back and get another championship.  Trevor – bring me back my blonde – great job this year, in spite of Carl.

IHRA folks- Howie and Bob and all the guys we fed all year- thanks for being good friends. Hope you don’t lose too much weight without me around – well maybe you should all lose some weight anyhow.  Baker- let me know when you want to go a few rounds. We are in the same weight class but you should lay down for 30 minutes each day just to practice for our bout.  Aaron- please don’t write about Edmonton again or I will show up at your doorstep.

My crew- what can I say about these guys.  Jeff has been covering my back for 20 years and still snores like a wounded elephant.  Tom has been around to run all kinds of crazy errands.  Brett – when you are there, the scenario is better- if you bring Shannon along.  Dan- you worked harder and better than anyone.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed having you on the team.   And…..Chris- 1999 World Champion – just to remind you guys who may need a great driver.  We had great laughs and good times.   Sometimes too much brew or margaritas but we managed to get down the track. Chris, you were my crew chief, my main critic and cheerleader, and mostly – my best friend.

It is time to sign off.  I will miss the racing, the travels, all the fun – but most of all – the IHRA friends I made.
