Christmas will be coming in July for Pro Stock racer Jim Cunningham.

The long suffering Ford runner confirmed with CompetitionPlus.com that he will take delivery of his first batch of new Ford engines complete with technology that he developed in a joint venture with Ford Racing at that time.

Incorporated into the engines are the latest bells and whistles developed in conjunction with NASCAR.

Cunningham confirmed with CompetitionPlus.com the engines will be equipped with new specialty parts he lobbied the manufacturer for and funded himself.

The extra engines will come in handy for Cunningham as he plans to run a pair of the newly redesigned 2010 Mustangs this season. He confirmed that he will drive one and it's likely Erica Enders will be behind the wheel of the other.

Race fans will gain their first glimpse of the redesigned Mustang body during the PRI show in Orlando, Fla., when Cunningham will debut the first of the Fords in the Ford Motorsports booth.

“The front end on the car has been changed,” Cunningham said. “The car I will display will be one that I had sitting over at Jerry Haas’ shop that had never been run. We put the new front end on it and changed the tail lights.”

Cunningham confirmed he has new Mustangs under construction at Don Ness’s shop. While these cars will utilize the same front end as the car he plans to debut in 2009, the overall body will be a first-run aerodynamically balanced version.

“You watch,” Cunningham said. “We’ll be running with those Dodges and the GM cars. We are determined to be competitive.”
