John Force ended the first day qualifying for the second annual CompetitionPlus.com War Stories Showdown as the provisional leader, leading first time entrant “Waterbed” Fred Miller by 1.51 percent of the reader voting.

The CompetitionPlus.com War Stories Showdown is a competition of story-telling with the winners determined by reader vote as competitors advance on an NHRA-style eliminations ladder. Ladder seeding is determined by reader vote.

Miller, a former high-profile Blue Max crewmember, made a late-day push to surpass Gary Scelzi for the second spot.

Scelzi was the early leader in qualifying but fell victim to an end of the day charge from Force and fell to fourth before making an end of the day push to climb to third.

Another first time entrant Don Garlits claimed the fourth position just ahead of 2007 semi-finalists Bob and Etta Glidden.

Qualifying concludes on Wednesday December 18, 2008 at 5 PM, EST.
