DEBBIE REED TAKES WIN AND CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

Australian Drag Racing’s favourite daughter, Debbie Reed, has added to her trophy cabinet by taking out the Top Alcohol Debbie_Reed_2.JPGbracket at Western Sydney International Dragway’s Boxing Day USA Showdown over the weekend (26th-28th December).

With this, she has also shot to the top of the National Championship table becoming the first female in history to lead the professional category.

The win is Debbie’s second in her Top Alcohol Dragster with the first at the 2006 East Coast Nationals, however victory was just as sweet second time around for the popular Queenslander. “This is fantastic! My car didn’t miss a beat all weekend and we have come out of the event with the winner’s trophy and the Championship lead heading into the New Year,” Debbie Reed said.

“I was also able to dip into the 5.6’s (second passes) a couple of times including a new personal best Elapsed Time of 5.684 seconds despite the extremely hot conditions.”

“I actually have a new Top Alcohol Funny Car in the workshop back in Brisbane nearly ready to go, but with the way my current Dragster is running now I don’t think I will be in too much of a hurry to rush it out on track.”

“The Dragster will be out racing again at Willowbank Raceway’s New Year Series event this weekend (2nd–3rd January) and hopefully I can carry some form across from Sydney.”

For Steven Reed, husband and fellow competitor of Debbie, the result was bitter sweet after Debbie eliminated him in their Quarter-Final showdown.

After both qualifying well the pair were positioned on the same side of the draw and had to face-off in Round One of their Eliminators.

With Steven having his Swarfega backed Funny Car in a better position in the Championship, some thought that there could have been some team orders, however Debbie just pipped Steven at the post in what was one of the best side by side pass of the entire event.

“The plan coming into the USA Showdown was to have our team leading the Championship by the end of it, and that certainly happened but it was Debbie that leap-frogged everyone to go to the top,” Steven Reed said.

“After seeing that we had each other in the Quarter-Final we decided that we would settle it on the track and she just got me.”

“I was still the second quickest car on Finals day though and with similar hot weather conditions to Sydney expected up in Queensland for this weekend’s racing, we are hopeful that we will be able to dial in some good tune ups straight away and shoot for another team victory.”
