WHO NEEDS PRO STOCK? THE BLING IS IN BRACKETS FOR COUGHLIN
Racing against a huge field of drag
racing’s best sportsman drivers, Coughlin picked up the first place check after
defeating Shane Carr of Hendersonville, Tenn., in the final round. Coughlin put
an exclamation point on the win with a nearly perfect run in the final when he
left the starting line with a .007 reaction time and then sealed the victory by
running right on his dial-in in his JEG'S Mail Order dragster.
“I
struggled a bit earlier this weekend but today I managed to settle into a nice
rhythm and was fortunate to have the close race go my way,” said Coughlin. “Any
win is special, but this one really feels good because Atco Raceway has some of
the toughest racers in the country and anytime you can win a race here and leave
with the trophy, there’s a tremendous feeling of accomplishment that goes with
it.”

Coughlin advanced to round five of Friday’s opening Superbucks event
before an electrical problem forced him to the sidelines. On Saturday, Coughlin
lost in the opening round of the $20,000 to win main event, and was also
defeated early in the special “Race for the Dragster” event that awarded a brand
new race car to its champion.
“Saturday was a really tough day but
that’s the way it goes sometimes,” said Coughlin. As tough as these races are,
you can be on top of your game and still not get the job done. When you have a
day like that, the best thing to do is put it all behind you and focus on the
next race, which luckily for me, happened to be the next day.”
Coughlin,
who has spent much of the season competing in big bracket races and other
significant sportsman events across the country, has now won four major titles
in 2006. He also won the Top Dragster title at the Jegs.com NHRA Cajun
SPORTSnationals in Belle Rose, La., and the Mopar Hemi Challenge race in Las
Vegas, Nev.
Other $20,000 winners from this weekend’s Atco Superbucks
event included local racers Dave Shapiro of Hillsboro, N.J. and Scott Albrecht
of Jackson, N.J.
