QUARTERMAX TEAM INCREASES NHRA INVOLVEMENT

r_jones.jpgWhile the recent economic downturn is causing problems for some companies and race teams, Rick Jones has decided not only to maintain his involvement, but to increase his commitments for the 2009 season. The owner Quarter-Max Chassis and Racing Components and RJ Race Cars, Inc. says he is resolved to not let the nation's struggling economy dictate their commitment to customers and fans.

"In these tough economic times we want to prove that Quarter-Max and RJ Race Cars, Inc. is in this for the long haul," Jones communicates. "When the going gets tough the tough get going. We are planning on attending all 24 of the NHRA Full Throttle events. Also Quarter-Max will have a new display trailer with inventory on the manufactures midway to better service the racers and our loyal customers."

Jones, along with son Rickie as driver of the Quarter-Max Mopar Dodge Stratus, also plans to increase involvement with his successful Pro Stock operation. "As far as our race program goes, last year was a learning year for our entire team. We went to 18 races and learned a lot and Rickie did a very good job driving the car. This year we hope to do a little better. I believe in the 'crawl, walk, then run' motto. This year I hope to qualify better, go more rounds and maybe win a race. We will use Larry Morgan horsepower again this year. Larry and Diane Morgan and the crew at LMR are awesome people. We love working with them."

Last year, in their rookie season, the team clocked a best elapsed time of 6.591, racked up several round wins including a semifinal finish at the O'Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas, and Rickie received a nomination for the Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future Rookie of the Year Award.

Following in his father's footsteps, the youngest Jones wears many hats. When not in the driver's seat, Rickie is very busy at the family-owned RJ Race Cars.

"It's been a busy off season for us at RJ Race Cars," he said. "We're increasing our commitment to our customers this season, hopefully making things more accessible to them, and, as always, working to give them the best race car out there. We are thankful for their support and business and we want to do our best by them."

With the season fast approaching, Jones is pumped for his second season behind the wheel.

"I am very excited about this upcoming season. A lot of people have been focusing on the negatives lately, but I think we have a lot of positives ahead of us this year on the NHRA Full Throttle tour. It's going to be a great season thanks to Full Throttle and the other companies that have chosen to invest in drag racing again.

"Last year was a lot of fun for me. I had a lot of learning to do and I know that part isn't over and never will be. I'm looking forward to applying what I learned last year and improving myself this season. I'm very proud of our team- my Dad and Mom [Rick and Bonnie Jones, owner of Quarter-Max] and Rick Varnold. We all came a long way in a short time last year and I have full confidence in the team heading into our second Pro Stock season. Larry Morgan Racing is going to be onboard with us again this year for horsepower. I want to thank him and his team for helping to make our rookie season a success and for helping us again in 2009. We're going to go out there and win some rounds, have some fun, and hopefully take home our first Wally."
