For the first time in many years, the Johnson cars will not participate in the traditional Pro Stock preseason warm-up contested on Super Bowl Sunday dating back to its days in Houston, Texas, before relocating to Las Vegas.

IMG_8018_1_1.JPGBoth cars are pre-entered for the NHRA Winternationals, but unless significant sponsorship is procured, only one car will compete, a source close to the situation indicates.

In an interview several weeks ago, Warren told CompetitionPlus.com that just because his name is on the pre-entry list isn’t a solid assurance he’ll be in competition.

“We may enter Pomona, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we are going to race,” Johnson said in the article published on January 7.

A source at GM told CompetitionPlus.com that Kurt’s ACDelco program was renewed for 2009 with additional backing from Warren’s former sponsor, GM Performance Parts, as an associate.

Warren is said to be in negotiations with K&N Filters. A source within the company confirmed that such talks have transpired but to his knowledge nothing has been finalized.
