The occasion also marked the unveiling of a groundbreaking, yearlong joint recycling program by the National Guard ADRL and Safety-Kleen to help both fans and competitors to be more environmentally friendly.

As part of Safety-Kleen's on-going "Make Green Work" program, fans and competitors alike will be encouraged to bring their used motor oil and oil filters to designated drop-off points at every National Guard ADRL event throughout the year for environmentally safe disposal.

"Safety-Kleen is proud to support the National Guard ADRL at their season-opening race at Houston Raceway Park with our "Make Green Work" environmental message," said Drew Patey, Director of Motorsports for Safety-Kleen. "The Safety-Kleen branch in Missouri City (TX) is our largest branch in the country and with the help of Glenn Kennedy and his staff, it will allow us to kick off our environmental initiative with the National Guard ADRL. Safety Kleen representatives will be on-site collecting used oil from race fans and encouraging those fans to properly dispose of their automotive fluids."

This marks the second year in a row that Houston Raceway Park will host the kick-off to the National Guard ADRL tour and HRP general manager Seth Angel is looking forward to playing host to the country's fastest growing motorsports

"We are thrilled the National Guard ADRL tour is returning to Houston Raceway Park and kicking off their 2009 season with the Safety-Kleen Dragpalooza V, March 6-7," said Angel. "The energy and excitement surrounding the National Guard ADRL is truly amazing and we are proud to be associated with their success."

National Guard ADRL Executive Vice President Jeff Fortune recalled last year's record-breaking single-day attendance at HRP for the season opener.

"It was very satisfying to set the then-record for the biggest one-day crowd at any drag racing event in the world," said Fortune. "We've since gone on to break that record at Ennis (TX) last year and I look forward to bringing our National Guard ADRL show back to Houston this year to establish a new mark.

"We're thrilled to have Safety-Kleen on board as a marketing partner and title sponsor of one of our most prestigious events. We take pride in knowing that we are working alongside a partner whose primary goal is to keep our planet clean for future generations."

The 2009 National Guard ADRL tour kicks off on March 6-7, 2009. The event will feature the debut of the new Extreme Pro Stock class, the fifth professional class in the National Guard ADRL's all-professional show.
