ALLEN LEADS GATORS SPORTSMEN
Supercharged racer David Allen was the quickest of the sportsman qualifiers on Thursday during the NHRA ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Fla.
Allen, competing in the BB/AM division, thundered the quarter-mile to a 6.857 elapsed time, -.653 under the index, to beat out Glen Treadwell's D/Econo Dragster. Treadwell was -.616 with an 8.014. There are 33 entries in competition this weekend with two more sessions left.

Super Stock was the property of Jerry Caro who overtook Irvin Johns in the final session.
Caro's Mopar was -1.274 under the SS/BM standard edging Lloyd Woffored's SS/JA who leapfrogged the SS/GTB Cobalt of Johns. There are 93 Super Stockers in competition this weekend.
Stock qualifying is complete and the K/SA of Greg Rowe overtook Bobby Warren in the final session. Seventy-three Stockers will roll to the line on Friday morning for the first round of eliminations.
