NHRA CONFIRMS ATLANTA TS

The fifth annual NHRA Top Sportsman Invitational presented by Davis Golf Carts and Sunset RaceCraft Racing Engines will return as part of the 2009 Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway, April 16-19.  The special Top Sportsman Invitational is open to this past season’s top 10 point finishers from each of NHRA’s seven geographic divisions.

Leading the list of entries will be past invitational winners including defending champion Matt Buck from Lantana, Fl.; reigning Southeast Division champion and 2007 invitational winner Jeffrey Barker from Warner Robins, Ga. and 2006 champion Earl Folse from Raceland, La. Other top performers qualified and expected include three-time North Central Division champion Mitch Smith from Anderson, Ind.; reigning South Central Division champion Keith Raftery from Lake Charles, La. and 2008 JEGS NHRA Northern Sportsnationals winner Ronnie Davis from Suwanee, Ga.

The first of three qualifying sessions for the 32-car field is scheduled for Thursday with the final two sessions slated for Friday.  Eliminations for the Top Sportsman Invitational will be run to completion on Saturday with the first round to get underway at 10 a.m.

The $8,400 cash purse for the INVITATIONAL posted by Davis Golf Carts and Sunset RaceCraft Racing Engines will include $2,000 for the winner; $1,000 to the runner-up; plus $600 to semi-finalist; $450 to quarter-finalist; and $300 to second round losers.  Additionally, the winner will receive a special NHRA Top Sportsman INVITATIONAL trophy.

A cookout and banquet presented by Cameron State Bank will be held Thursday evening in the track hospitality area for all Top Sportsman INVITATIONAL racers, their families and crews.
