Matt Smith will be reunited with former team owner/crew chief for at least one race beginning this weekend in Valdosta.
George Bryce never threatened to leave NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racing, he just made good on a promise.

After six world championships, 78 national event victories in 160 final rounds and a multitude of top ten finishes, the Americus, Ga.-based Bryce decided his team ownership program had run its course following twenty consecutive events.

Bryce is now ready to embark on a new journey, which for the time being, will be charted by past world champion and current NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Matt Smith.

“It’s time for us to go chase a new rainbow,” Bryce told CompetitionPlus.com. “This will be our first race with a nitrous-injected Buell. This is the first of many, we hope.”

The bike Smith will be riding during this weekend’s ADRL Hardee's Georgia Drags in Valdosta, Ga., is exactly the same combination to the Buell that Chris Rivas rode to the championship at the NHRA AAA Finals in Pomona, Ca. last November, except the electronic fuel injection system has been replaced with nitrous oxide and carburetors.

Electronic fuel injection is illegal in ADRL’s Pro Extreme Motorcycle.

Bryce told CompetitionPlus.com that Smith’s appointment to ride the experimental bike came about by chance. The second-generation champion had planned to be in Valdosta, assisting his father Rickie Smith, a front-runner in the Pro Nitrous division.

“He was jonesing for the chance to ride one of these Pro Extreme bikes,” Bryce admitted. “If he thinks he’s got a chance to win, he wants to do it. We needed Matt to ride the bike because it’s got a brand new configuration with carburetors and nitrous.

“Matthew is comfortable enough to be technical about the machine instead of just being a rider. Maybe a rookie rider on a brand new machine, while working out the bugs, might be more concerned with crapping their shorts than saving the engine.”
