Warm weather, high winds, and intense drag racing took over Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway as nearly 400 racers from across the nation were condensed into nine winners.  Competitors have battled it out since Friday to earn a chance at receiving the coveted NHRA Wally trophy at the JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals presented by K&N. Due to extreme weather conditions and in the best interest of safety, the decision was made to reduce racing to the 1/8th mile late Sunday morning.

Lucas Oil’s Thomas Bayer from right here in Fontana, Calif., captured his second national event win of the year defeating fellow Lucas Oil teammate Jack Freckman of Woodacre, Calif.  It was a family affair in the Super Gas final with defending NHRA Division 7 Champ Hollis Colleasure of San Dimas, Calif. taking out his son-in-la w Brad Pierce, Riverside, Calif.

Ed Sigmon from Chatsworth, Calif., took his '34 Chevy out of the No.8 qualifying position and into the Comp winner’s circle. Sigmon beat Glendale, Ariz., resident Mike DePalma off the line and carried it through the 1/8th mile for his long awaited reunion with the Wally.

The defending JEGS Pacific SPORTSnationals Super Stock champion found his way back to the finals and grabbed the win as Mark Faul, Tacoma, Wash., defeated Jimmy DeFrank of Thousand Oaks, Calif. The Stock crown went to Chino, Calif., resident Leo Glassbrenner, who received the win light as Clark Holroyd, also of Chino, Calif., jumped at the tree.

Super Street racer Michael Blodgett from Long Beach, Calif., followed in his Brother’s footsteps as he took the win light and the Wally trophy by ousting Brian Griffey of Glendale, Ariz. Matt Blodgett was victorious in the same category at last year’s Pacific SPORTSnationals.

In other racing action, Jed Bourquin of Canyon Country, Calif., picked up his first national event win by powering his ’93 Daytona to the Top Sportsman victory.  The Hughes Performance Top Dragster trophy was awarded to Tom Yancer, Chandler, Ariz., with a blistering 1/8 mile pass of 4.488 seconds at 151.49 mph. John Widmann from Garberville, Calif., steered his '97 Kawasaki into the Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson winner’s circle.

National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio will play host to the third and final JEGS SPORTSnationals event of the year in September.
