JEGS ALL STAR RACE SET TO CELEBRATE SILVER ANNIVERSARY

The most prestigious Sportsman race in the world will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year on the weekend of June 5-7 when the jegsallstars25yr_4c.jpginvitation-only JEGS Allstars race returns to Chicago's Route 66 Raceway.

The prestigious JEGS Allstars race features the top points earners from the NHRA's seven geographic divisions competing against each other for big money and divisional bragging rights. Although the fields haven't been set for this year's race as competitors in Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street continue to earn points towards inclusion, organizers at JEGS High Performance are making sure the 25th anniversary will be one to remember.

"This is the one event every Sportsman racer dreams of being a part of and we strive to make it as special for each competitor as possible," said Scott Woodruff, JEGS director of media and motorsports. "We're constantly tweaking and fine-tuning the program to make it the perfect event and with this year's race being the 25th anniversary, it certainly adds a level of excitement unlike any we've experienced before."

To commemorate the occasion, JEGS and the NHRA have unveiled a special 25th anniversary logo that will adorn all associated marketing materials promoting the race.

"We've been told in the past by the racers that the gear they get for qualifying and taking part in the race is worth more to them than anything else," Woodruff said. "With that being said, we wanted the 25th anniversary to stand out even more and I think we've done that.

"It's going to be a great weekend. We've moved the annual bar-be-que to Friday evening so more teams and drivers can take part and the people at Route 66 Raceway assure us the stage is set for a big weekend. This will be a great way to kick off the event for the 64 competitors and their teams. The excitement is certainly growing and the drivers on the bubble trying to get into the field are going all out to be included."

Drivers earn JEGS Allstars points by competing at Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events held within their home divisions. Defending JEGS Allstars champions in each category are automatically placed in the field as blockers, giving automatic spots in this year's race to Thomas Bayer (Top Alcohol Dragster), Doug Gordon (Top Alcohol Funny Car), Sal Biondo (Comp), Ron Erks (Super Comp), Craig Abbott (Super Street), Brenda Grubbs (Stock), Anthony Bertozzi (Super Stock), and Michael Sawyer (Super Gas).

Last year, Division 1 scored its third straight team championship on a tiebreaker after finishing the regular race tied with Division 2.
