AUSTRALIAN TOP FUEL CHAMPIONSHIP HITS THE ROAD

The 2022 Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship will venture into uncharted waters when the series travels to Sunset Strip, Mildura, March 12-13.

For the first time in over 30 years, Top Fuel will race for championship points at a venue outside an Australian capital city.

The category will also race over the eighth-mile distance for the first time since 2014.

Sunset Strip is 335 miles northwest of Melbourne on the Victorian, South Australian and N.S.W.borders.

The event coincides with a long weekend in Victoria and South Australia and organizers expect a sell-out crowd to flock to the venue to witness Top Fuel for the first time since 2014 when local hero Phil Lamattina set a track record of 3.29, 263 mph.

ATFC series organizers have won praise from teams and fans alike after successfully pivoting to keep the fledgling series alive in the face of near-insurmountable odds.

After a stellar opening at Sydney Dragway last month, round two, originally planned for Calder Park Raceway was shifted to Sydney Dragway then dramatically canceled due to sanctioning issues.

The upcoming round at Perth Motorplex has also been shelved due to the Western Australian Government quarantine mandate that requires all interstate visitors to self-isolate for 14 days.

Top Fuel Bike will also appear at Sunset Strip along with Pro Stock and the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series.

Phil Read, the winner of round one, leads the ATFC championship ahead of Peter Xiberras and Phil Lamattina.
