BUTNER RACES TO TOP SPOT IN PRO STOCK AT MAPLE GROVE

Friday’s performance left Pro Stock driver Bo Butner smiling Saturday at the Dodge Nationals in Reading, Pa.

Butner clocked a 6.554-second elapsed time at 210.18 mph in his Jim Butner's Auto Chevrolet Camaro during his first pass Friday and it held and allowed him to capture the No. 1 qualifying position.

“Luckily that run held up from (Friday),” Butner said. “We had some closer runs to us (Saturday) and that’s four really good, consistent rounds that could give you four good win lights (Sunday). We would be happy with all four of those again (Sunday).”

This was Butner’s fourth No. 1 qualifying position this season and seventh of his career. Butner arrived at Maple Grove Raceway second in the point standings – 25 behind Tanner Gray.

Butner collected eight bonus points in qualifying at Reading and Gray notched three points.

“I have a great car and a great team, and all three of our cars are fast,” said Butner, who drives for Ken Black Racing along with Jason Line and Greg Anderson. “I’m in a good mood and my car is just awesome. I’m really excited to hit the track (Sunday).”

Butner faces Val Smeland in the first round of eliminations. Reigning world champion Line qualified second and Tanner Gray qualified in the No. 3 spot,

Gray, a 19-year-old rookie, has won five races this season, including the last event at Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 17.
