CRASH PREMATURELY ENDS FRIDAY QUALIFYING AT SCSN

Friday action at the Street Car Super Nationals hosted by The Strip at Las Vegas came to a premature end, but not before some divisions managed to get in three full sessions.

During the Q-3 session of Pro Mod qualifying, Scott Loomis' Chevelle was unable to stop at the top end of the drag strip, driving through the sand trap, the netting, and finally, the fence.

Loomis emerged uninjured from the incident. After nearly an hour of repair, track and SCSN officials determined it would take at least two and a half more hours to replace the netting properly. As a result, all on-track activities Friday night were canceled and will resume Saturday morning at 8 AM, PST.

"First and foremost, we're just thankful Scott is OK," said event promoter Mel Roth. "Fences can be repaired quickly; our racers can't. This is just another indicator of the top-notch job (Drag Strip Manager) Jeff Foster and his crew have been doing for us for many years. They want to absolutely ensure the safety of the drivers and that's why no cars are going to make a pass until this is fixed.

"We hated to have to end the night early, but we also didn't want to make our fans wait around and have our drivers sitting in the lanes. It is what it is and we'll be back in the morning, ready to go."

Tom Bailey presently stands as No. 1 with a 5.750 elapsed time, at 239.61 miles per hour.

In the Outlaw Pro Modified division, turbocharged doorslammer icon Eric Dillard wasted no time in racing from Point A to Point B, as he recorded a 5.458 elapsed time at 271.46 miles per hour. He finished just ahead of supercharged runner John Stanley, who was no slouch with his 5.579, 263.31.
