HARRIS HEADLINES WINNERS AT PDRA SUMMER DRAGS

For the fourth time in the last five years the PDRA Series traveled to Martin, Michigan and its fabled U.S. 131 Motorsports Park for the PDRA Summer Drags.

Chamber of commerce weather and full fields in all eliminators (except for Pro Extreme) made for an exciting and enjoyable event.

In Pro Nitrous Jason Harris won for the first time in a long-time. In the final round he defeated Maryland’s Jim Halsey with a substantial hole-shot, 3.724-seconds to 3.674-seconds.

The race of the event had occurred in the semi-final round of Pro Nitrous when Halsey defeated Lizzi Musi, also on a hole-shot. Halsey’s 3.774-second run was good enough to hold off Musi’s quicker but losing 3.747-second run.

Chuck Ulsch was the last man standing in Pro Boost. A slow 4.977-second elapsed time was all he needed for the win after Andy Jensen’s amazing small block ’68 Camaro crept through the beams and turned on the red light. This was Ulsch’s third PDRA final round of the year and his first victory.

Terry Leggett won the lightly-attended Pro Extreme class when his 3.568-second run held off Adam Flamholc’s 3.650-second elapsed time.

John DeFlorian, Jr. was the number one qualifier in Extreme Pro Stock with a 4.076-second elapsed time. His road to the final round was made easier when all three of his early-round competitors red lighted. In the final he nearly repeated his qualifying time with a 4.077-second run to hold off John Pluchino.

In Pro Extreme Motorcycle Eric McKinney had an easy run to the trophy when his final-round competitor (and tuner) Ashley Owens decided not to run his bike due to the possibility of damaging his engine.

In other eliminators Florida’s Mike Oldham won Pro Outlaw 632, Glen Teets III drove his beautiful Pontiac GTO to the Elite Top Sportsman title, Al Peavler won Elite Top Dragster, Chris Ruzika grabbed the Pro Jr. Dragster trophy, Arellyn Garner-Jones was the last person standing in Top Jr. Dragster, Dennis Gaboriault reversed his Maryland runner-up with a win in Top Sportsman 32 and Nick Reavis was the Top Dragster 32.

Scott Blake suffered a devasting crash in the final round of Pro Nitrous qualifying. He was airlifted from the track late Friday night but was already back at the legendary strip Saturday afternoon.
