JUSTEN SPENCER TURNING HEADS IN NMCA, PSCA

Justen Spencer has been a highly-successful racer in National Muscle Car Association West and Pacific Street Car Association competition.

Spencer runs an open comp modular motor – and has prevailed without any hiccups.

“It’s a 4.6 liter single overhead cam modular motor and it has Trick Flow cylinder heads on it and as far as challenges to running the motor honestly there hasn’t been many,” said Spencer, 26. “We’ve had that same motor in the car without freshening it for three years. I won an Open Comp championship in NMCA and I’m on track to win another one this year. I also won a PSCA Open Comp championship and a Mustang Madness championship.”

There was no secret brainstorming as to why Spencer began campaigning the open comp modular motor in his 2000 Roush Mustang.

“It was the motor that was in the car when we got it,” Spencer said. “We also put aftermarket stuff on it and a different engine block and stuff like that. It was kind of like more of a passion thing. We wanted to have that motor perform well and that was pretty much all it was. It was a street car and it just morphed into becoming a race car. My dad (Brian) drove the thing on the street for quite a number of years before he even took it out to the race track. He got hooked on it. He would drive it out to the track and race it and then drive it home. Then it got the point where it really wasn’t feasible to be driving it to the track anymore.”

Spencer said his Mustang has had elapsed times in the 9.40s on a safe tune at 143 mph.

“The car is a totally different animal than when I first started driving it,” Spencer said.

Spencer acknowledged his racing endeavors receive a tremendous boost thanks to the support he gets from Aerospace Components.

“Their support means a lot to us,” Spencer said. “We wouldn’t be able to do everything we do if we didn’t have them. They promote us and we love promoting them and they have recognized how well I did in the past and how well I’m doing now. Being able to represent them on the NMCA Midway has just been an exciting partnership that we hope to continue with them for a very long time. They have been really easy to work with.”

Spencer returns to the track for the PSCA Finals Oct. 9-11 in Fontana, Calif.
