Qualifying for the Bakersfield March Meet isn't scheduled to begin until Friday, but traditionally Thursday, all nitro-burning professional divisions are afforded a hit as part of a test session.

There were 25 teams which took advantage of the extra pass.

Mike Peck pushed his Camaro Funny Car to the quickest of AA/FC entries as he stepped the timers with a 5.749 elapsed time at 253.14 miles per hour. Second quickest was Mike Melendez's Pontiac Firebird with a 5.836, 208.26. Veteran Jeff Arend was third with a 5.863.

Over in the dragsters, it was a Funny Car at the top of the list when Dan Horan Jr., clicked off early with a 5.899 elapsed time at 212.49 miles per hour. Pete Wittenberg was second with a 5.955, 195.00. Jim Murphy was third with a 6.025, 188.96.
