SHANE GRAY TALKS ABOUT PRO STOCK TEST SESSION

A day after doing burnouts at a test session at Bradenton (Fla.) Motorsports Park, Shane Gray made his maiden voyage Tuesday in the Pro Stock Camaro which has undergone wholesale changes because of newly implemented NHRA rules to the Pro Stock class.

“We are still early in this deal and I just don’t have a lot of info,” Gray said. “We finally made a full run (Tuesday) and it’s dead slow. It’s probably 15 hundredths off and five mph down. Right now, we are just trying to learn how to run it. We are trying learn how to use the software.”

Gray said he only made the one full pass Tuesday, but he plans on making 5 to 6 passes each on Wednesday and Thursday at Bradenton. Gray’s crew chief is Justin Elkes.

Gray, like all Pro Stock competitors in 2016, will have to go through a hectic offseason due to the major changes announced for the class.

As of Jan. 1, 2016, NHRA is requiring all Pro Stock teams to equip their cars with electronically-controlled throttle body fuel injection systems, making engines more relevant from a technology standpoint. In order to reduce and control costs for the race teams, an NHRA-controlled 10,500 Rev Limiter will be added to the fuel injection systems.

NHRA also will require Pro Stock teams to remove all hood scoops and reduce the length of the wheelie bars to a length specified by the NHRA Tech Department.

“I didn’t see a huge difference there,” Gray said about driving without the hood scoop. “But, I’m kind of tall anyway.”
