STEVE JOHNSON NO LONGER RUNNING SAVOIE’S SECOND MOTORCYCLE

NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Jerry Savoie confirmed to CompetitionPlus.com that Steve Johnson is no longer his teammate.

“He’s not riding our second motorcycle anymore,” Savoie said. “Steve is a really nice guy, but it just didn’t work out.”

Johnson rode Savoie’s motorcycle at just one event – the 2018 season-opening Pro Stock Motorcycle race, NHRA’s Gatornationals March 15-18 in Gainesville, Fla.

Johnson qualified No. 7 on the Suzuki and he defeated Angie Smith in the first round when she recorded a red-light start. Johnson’s day ended when he lost to eventual race winner Eddie Krawiec in round two.

The next Pro Stock Motorcycle race on the schedule is April 27-29 at the Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, N.C.

“We still have a ways to go before Charlotte, so I’m hoping to have something done in time for Charlotte,” Savoie said. “The bike is ready. It is just a matter of securing a deal and financing and stuff like that. There’s not a lack of interest in someone else riding the second bike. We have had two or three calls and it will work out.”

Savoie, the 2016 Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion, sits 11th in the points standings in his White Alligator Racing Suzuki. He qualified No. 6 at the Gatornationals and lost in the first round to Karen Stoffer.

“Having a teammate does help with information,” Savoie said. “We had a problem at Gainesville, but it has been worked out and we should be back with two fast motorcycles in Charlotte.”
