WORLD SERIES OF DRAG RACING WRAPS UP EDITION NO. 62

After a rainy start, the World Series of Drag Racing, an independent national event promoted by Cordova International Raceway, came to a close on Sunday afternoon with perfect weather. Tens of thousands of race fans jammed the facility located in Illinois to witness three days of drag racing, both modern and nostalgic, and rub elbows with drag racing legends such as Don Garlits, Jerry Eckman, Carol “Bunny Burkett, Arnie Beswick, and Ron Colson.

Nitro was in abundance as the father-son fuel combo of Tim and Dan Wilkerson staged a two-out-of-three match race. Jenna Haddock, Dom Lagana, Clay Millican and Bruce Litton staged a four-car match race.

In the Nitro Nostalgia Challenge, Mark “Mr Explosive” Sanders took the top qualifying spot from Paul Romine and his “Man-O-War” Mustang early Saturday.  But in the end it was Romine, who mastered the new CIR race surface and prevailed over the eight-car field and Jimmy Young’s AA/FD in the final.

In Nostalgia Pro Stock, North Carolina’s Jeff Rudisill, driving the Orndorff & Eckman tribute Camaro won over Roland Lursky and the Rod Shop Colt to claim the Nostalgia Pro Stock Championship.

Carried over into Sunday was the final two rounds of Victory Nostalgia Super Stock. Jason Krueger outlasted a 45-car field to win final Jerry Kuenster.
