PRO MOD RACER LANG'S DREAM COME TRUE

Image

Western
Canadian Pro Mod driver Kenny Lang achieved a long time dream last
Sunday when he earned his first career “Ironman” during the IHRA’s
Spring Nationals at Rockingham, NC.

Kenny Lang captured the Pro Modified title when Scott Cannon, Jr. broke.

Driving his spectacular and refurbished ’53 Corvette and displaying his
new association with DragRaceCanada’s popular NitroMoose line of
products, Lang and his talented crew (from Manitoba) were all business
all weekend while putting forth a dominating display.

After qualifying #2 for the very swift Pro Modified program with a
6.031 secs effort, Lang and company coaxed three more low 6.0 secs runs
on Sunday to advance past Jason Hamstra, Billy Gibson and Tommy
D’Aprile.  That was to have set up a much anticipated final round date
with defending IHRA World Champion Scott Cannon.  However when Cannon’s
car had engine problems and developed a leak, Lang rode off into the
North Carolina sunset on a single and as a victor.   The win came in
what was in fact Lang’s third straight final round appearance at the
“Rock” including the 2007 racing season.

COUGHLINS DOUBLE UP AT NHRA DIVISION 3 EVENT

Jegs1sm.jpgRacing at the most hallowed drag strip in
the world, O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, Team JEGS drivers John and
Mike Coughlin completed one of their most memorable weekends as they each
claimed victories during this weekend’s North Central Division Lucas Oil Drag
Racing Series season-opener. Mike claimed a win in the Dart Top Sportsman class
and a few minutes later, John joined his younger brother in the winner’s circle
by taking the Super Stock title.

“Anytime you win a race it’s a great feeling, but to have your brother win
on the same day makes it even more rewarding and exciting,” said Mike, who is
the reigning Division 3 Dart Top Sportsman Series champion. “As soon as I got
out of my car after the final, my first thought was to find someplace where I
could watch John’s final round. Thankfully, it all worked out for both of us.
What a fantastic way to start the season.”

HERBERT TO PARTICIPATE IN SECOND "CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES" SAFE DRIVING SEMINAR

Doug Herbert, owner and driver of the SnaponFranchise.com Top Fuel dragster,
will be speaking at a second “Choices and Consequences” seminar to help promote
safe driving.

After losing his sons, Jon, 17, and
James, 12, in an automobile accident just a few months ago, Herbert has made it
his mission to help prevent other parents,  families, and friends from
experiencing what he has been feeling since the tragic loss of his
boys.

GILBERTSON READY FOR NHRA CHALLENGE

Nitro Funny Car driver Bob Gilbertson is chomping at the bit waiting to get back
on track at this weekend's NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta
Dragway.

Atlanta Dragway has been good to Gilbertson in
the past as he's scored semi-final round finishes there and he's looking to keep
the momentum going at this year's event in his new Tradicion Azul Tequila Dodge
Stratus.

Circle in IHRA’s Pro Modified class. He moved into a Nitro Funny Car
for the 2008 season…a move that has agreed with him so far.

Hagan secured his first career NFC round win on his way to his first
career national event victory at the 37th Annual IHRA Spring Nationals
in Rockingham. He defeated Paul Lee in the final round to claim his
first national event title.

CANNON'S UNKNOWN BUYER

The popular rumor circulating throughout Rockingham Dragway suggested
six-time IHRA World Champion Scotty Cannon had sold his newly
constructed Vanishing Point Race Cars-fabricated 1968 Pontiac Firebird.
Cannon confirmed the rumor as truth.

So who did he sell his car to?

“We sold it to an unknown guy,” Cannon responded.

“An unknown guy?” we asked.

“When he pays you it's his, regardless of his name and who he is,”
Cannon explained. “He just doesn't want his name revealed yet. I guess
it's sort of a surprise. We did some testing with it at Darlington; he
did some driving with it and he's happy and all good. Everybody will
know pretty soon who it is. It won't take long, I'm sure.”
