SATURDAY FINAL - STOTT IS THE PRO EXTREME IN DALLAS; OTHERS WINNERS INCLUDE CASTELLANA, GLIDDEN AND GRAY

DSA_3608.JPG

pxwinner.JPG
Quain Stott made the decision earlier in the week to go ADRL in 2009 and got off to a good start with a win.
Quain Stott proclaimed earlier in the week that he planned to make the ADRL series his primary source for racing in 2009. On Saturday night at the ADRL LenMar Motorsports World Finals in Dallas, Texas, he got a head start on the competition.

Joining Stott (Pro Extreme) in the winner’s circle were such heavy-hitters as Mike Castellana (Pro Nitrous), Billy Glidden (Outlaw 10.5) and Scott Gray (Pro Extreme Motorcycle).

Stott, of Inman, S.C., drove past newly crowned world champion Jason Scruggs in the final round to claim his fourth career ADRL Pro Extreme national event crown.

Stott streaked to a winning 3.877 elapsed time at 183.59 miles per hour to upend the heavily favored Scruggs who nearly crashed his Dodge Stratus in the final round.

This was the final round which nearly almost didn’t happen.

pn_winer.JPG
Mike Castellana reigned supremeamongst thePro Nitrous crowd defeating Jim Halsey in the final round.
Stott had mortally wounded an engine in his semi-final victory over past champion Bubba Stanton thus requiring an engine swap between rounds. Members from teams eliminated from competition helped to prepare the LeeBoy Paving Equipment-sponsored Corvette. Among those assisting was Scruggs personally.

When the call went out for the Pro Extreme final round, Scruggs opted to wait on Stott to complete the necessary between-rounds work.

Scruggs averted disaster in the final when he launched and his Dodge made an abrupt left turn just past the 60-foot cones, crossing the centerline, taking out the cones and an unmanned television camera while headed for the retaining wall. A last second save prevented an impact.

“The master (brake) cylinder let go just as I let the clutch out and brake fluid sprayed all over the rear tire,” Scruggs explained. “I don’t know how I managed to not hit anything more (than the camera), because I really should have.”

Castellana, of Westbury, N.Y., won a clash of the nitrous titans when he defeated Jim Halsey in the finals to get a leg up on the 2009 championship chase.

ADRL’s championship system crowns champions from the current year on Friday and begins the next year’s championship on Saturday. At the final event of 2009, the top eight points earners in all four divisions will do battle to determine the series champion.

Castellana battled tire shake for most of qualifying but found the right combination on race day to drive past Tim Savell, Doug Reisterrer, and Harold Martin en route to the final round. He entered Saturday’s final eliminations as the No. 9 qualifier.

xtf_winner.JPG
Billy Glidden closed 2008 as Extreme 10.5 champion and open 2009 as the man to beat.
“Once we got the car to go straight it got better every time out,” said Castellana, who made the best Pro Nitrous pass of the weekend in the final round. “It was really straight and smooth by the end there.”

Halsey mortally wounded his 820-inch, Gene Fulton powerplant in a semi-final victory over Johnny Pilcher. A made thrash ensured his appearance for the final round.

Halsey entered final eliminations as the No. 2 qualifier behind Castellana’s teammate Shannon Jenkins.

Glidden, for his part, showed his championship pedigree as son of eleven-time (10 NHRA, 1 IHRA) Pro Stock champion Bob Glidden as he won the Outlaw 10.5 championship on Friday and got off to an early title defense on Saturday by stopping Gary White in an incredible holeshot victory.

“This class just keeps getting tougher and tougher,” Glidden said later. “It used to be you could run 4.30s and occasional 4.20s and be competitive, but everyone has really stepped up their game over the last five months or so and that’s a thing of the past.”

pxm_winner.JPG
Scott Gray defeated all en route to the Pro Extreme Motorcycle division.
Glidden scored the win-light with a 4.103, 175.98 which barely nipped the 4.101, 174.91 of White who races a turbocharged four-cylinder Scion. Remarkably White’s final round established a new Outlaw 10.5 world record.

Gray’s day got off to a good start in the first round when he knocked off newly christened world champion Billy Vose in the first round and culminated the incredible day with a victory over Matt Prophitt in the final round.

“I just felt like it was my time to win today,” Gray said. “For sure it took a lot of hard work, but when it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.”

Gray also defeated Tommy Campbell (quarter-finals) and Robert Hunnicutt (semis) en route to the final round.

Gray entered eliminations as the fourth quickest qualifier.

The National Guard ADRL series continues in 2009, most likely in March, but nothing is confirmed until the official schedule is released in December at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show held in Orlando, Fla.

HERNANDEZ CRASHES; EMERGES UNINJURED

Josh Hernandez emerged from the National Guard '57 Chevy after a horrific top end accident.

Hernandez encountered an abundance of tire shake during his second round race and managed a victory over Clyde Scott, but the car made a hard move to the right in the traps and impacted the retaining wall before debris eliminated visibility from the starting line.

Eyewitness have confirmed the car made contact with the wall multiple times.

Hernandez exited the car under his own power conscious and alert. He was checked out by medical personnel on site and released.

However just past the finishline the car made a hard move & shot across the racetrack with heavy impact to the wall. FRIDAY - ADRL CROWNS CHAMPIONS ON FRIDAY NIGHT BATTLE OF THE BELTS

Scruggs_wins.jpg
Jason Scruggs remains as the ADRL’s Pro Extreme world champion after successfully defending the title Oct. 24, in the 4th annual LenMar Motorsports World Finals at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX.

Vegas odds-makers would love this one; three of the four 2008 American Drag Racing League (ADRL) champions crowned at the Texas Motorplex Oct. 24, in the 4th annual LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals, go by the name, “Billy,” with only defending Pro Extreme champ Jason Scruggs spoiling a four-of-a-kind finish, as Billy Vose also successfully defended his 2007 Pro Extreme Motorcycle championship, while Billy Glidden prevailed in Extreme 10.5 and Billy Harper won in the Pro Nitrous class.

The ADRL determines season champions through its Battle for the Belts, a single-elimination playoff between the top eight points earners in each professional class.

Vose_stare.jpg
Back-to-back ADRL Pro Extreme Motorcycle championships now belong to Billy Vose after he won the series’ season-ending Battle for the Belts Oct. 24, in Ennis, TX.

Scruggs, from Saltillo, MS, ran a traction-challenged 4.15-seconds pass at just 151.05 mph with his supercharged ’07 Dodge Stratus to defeat Mabank, TX, racer Wes Johnston in the championship-deciding Pro Extreme final, after Bil Clanton and Brian Daniels were both disqualified for leaving too soon against him.

“We didn’t run too good and got lucky,” Scruggs said. “I guess that’s what it takes sometimes, though.”

Buck Mountain, PA’s Vose also benefited by a redlight start against him by Jack Clark in round one. He then overcame a holeshot by Scott Gray to win in the semis before making his best pass of the day, a 4.26 at 163.91 mph over the Motorplex eighth mile, to beat Nikie Corley and retain his ADRL title.

Harper_smoke.jpg
Former Kentucky gubernatorial candidate Billy Harper came into the ADRL’s 2008 Battle for the Belts in first place and left as the Pro Nitrous world champion.

“It wasn’t pretty,” Vose said, “but it got the job done.”

Glidden and his Ford-powered ’06 GTO got the job done with a 4.15 pass at 172.94 mph against Mike Hill in the Extreme 10.5 Battle for the Belts final after ousting local favorite Michelle Wilson in round one and participating in the quickest and fastest side-by-side race in series history with Steve Kirk Jr. in the semis. Kirk put together a stout 4.15 at 177.91, but still came up short to Glidden’s record-setting 4.13 at 174.46 mph effort.

“I know it looks like I had them covered, but it was a far from perfect day,” the Whiteland, IN-based, second-generation driver insisted. “I fought clutch problems and feel fortunate to have won.”

Harper, from Paducah, KY, gave all the championship credit to his team members, led by crew chief and fellow driver Dennis

Glidden_launch.jpg
Second-generation racer Billy Glidden put in a dominating performance Oct. 24, to secure the 2008 ADRL Extreme 10.5 Battle for the Belts title at the Texas Motorplex.

Radford. His 2001 Dodge Viper carried him to wins over Burton Auxier and Shannon Jenkins before going 3.94 at 186.23 mph to win over Rickie Smith in the final. All three of Harper’s challengers are Al-Anabi Awesome Motorsports teammates.

“Bring on another Al-Anabi car,” Radford quipped immediately upon winning.

The 2009 ADRL season actually begins this weekend, too, as all points earned in qualifying and eliminations at the World Finals will count toward setting the Battle for the Belts fields for next year.

(3) Jason Scruggs - 3.935 et - 163.08 mph (**WINNER**)

(7) Rickie Smith - 4.078 et - 188.23 mph (**WINNER**)
(6) Stan Allen - 4.119 et - 178.76 mph

(1) Billy Glidden - 4.133 et - 174.46 mph (**WINNER**)
(5) Steve Kirk - 4.159 et - 172.91 mph

(3) Todd Moyer - 4.212 et - 176.37 mph

Moyer is running the twin turbo ride on methanol & has a weird flash of flame every time he clears the throttle. Oh man, what a race as the Hitman has a perfect light while Moyer has a .002 light!! Moyer was out on Hill until about 400 ft when a pop & flash of flame came from the turbo ride allowing Hill to drive around him!!

PXM

(1) Ron Procopio - 4.349 et - 167.30 mph
(4) Nikie Corley - 4.327 et - 169.85 mph (**WINNER**)

(7) Scott Gray - 4.271 et - 164.69 mph
(3) Billy Vose - 4.295 et - 166.65 mph (**WINNER**)

Gray nearly gets timed out, but it didn't phase Vose as he put a .019 to .067 holeshot on Gray and hangs on for the victory!!

ROUND ONE ELIMINATIONS - Battle For The Belts

PX

(1) Josh Hernandez - 4.194 et - 186.77 mph
(8) Wes Johnston - 4.153 et - 157.80 mph (**WINNER**)

Hernandez was dominant in 2008 compiling a 21-5 round record with 3 event victories en-route to a runaway points lead.

HUGE upset here as Hernandez shook while Wild Wild Wes was ALL over his lane, nearly crossing the centerline but taking the win!!! Johnston's throttle hung open as he was under power way past the stripe, taking out the ¼ mile cones.

(4) Travis Swearingen - 9.653 et - 41.99 mph
(5) Frankie Taylor - 3.944 et - 194.88 mph (**WINNER**)

This is a great match-up of fan favorites between the Young Gun & the Mad Man, both guys gathering their first national event victories this season.

WOW, Frankie puts a big time holeshot on Travis & then the Junkyard Willys pitches a blower belt right off the starting line as Frankie streaks away!

(2) Bubba Stanton - 4.115 et - 193.82 mph
(7) Brian Daniels - 3.962 et - 193.24 mph (**WINNER**)

Team Widowmaker enters this event with arguably the hottest car on the circuit, going to the final round at the last 2 events, winning Dragstock. Bubba Stanton is also the 2006 champion.

Another upset as Stanton has a .016 light but was very soft off the line with a 1.09 60' & Daniels pulled away for the win.

(3) Jason Scruggs - 3.997 et - 196.22 mph (**WINNER**)
(6) Bil Clanton - 5.282 et - 84.67 mph

Scruggs is the defending champ & will try to repeat in a different racecar. Only 2 racecars have been over 200mph in 1/8 mile in ADRL competition, and Scruggs owns both of them.

Man a bizarre race as Clanton goes -.039 RED, has a .959 60' time & then nearly put it in the left hand wall before lifting. Scruggs was there for the taking as the car was soft off the line, but he moves on!

Battle For The Belts PN

(1) Billy Harper - 3.967 et - 184.07 mph (**WINNER**)
(8) Burton Auxier - 4.912 et - 113.89 mph

Harper has had a dominating season with a 16-4 round record, winning 3 races in a row, while Auxier bumped his way into the field at the final event of the season. However Burton is now in the new TM Al-Anabi/Awesome Motorsports ride. This is also a good manufacturer's battle, Buck/NOS vs RM/Speedtech...

Auxier was first off the line with an .030 light but ran into shgake while Harper was long gone for the round win!

(4) Shannon Jenkins - 5.260 et - 94.04 mph (**WINNER**)
(5) Jim Halsey - 3.952 et - 190.00 mph

This is a monumental match-up, Halsey in the flagship Fulton ride vs the legendary Iceman, waving the RM/Speedtech banner. Both competitors have 2008 event wins under their belt.

Unbelievable, Halsey goes -.010 RED & hands the round win to Jenkins as he shook the tires right off the starting line!!!

(2) Dennis Radford - 4.674 et - 146.23 mph
(7) Rickie Smith - 4.288 et - 171.75 mph (**WINNER**)

Great story here as Radford parked the Duster, pulled the Viper out for the racer & then proceeded to break that ride in testing.... So, Thomas Myers handed over the keys to his Corvette to Dennis, which happens to be Radfords old ride!!

Rickie was there for the taking as he shook & peddled twice, but Radford ran into tire shake first & could not get it recovered in time.

(3) Randy Weatherford - 4.504 et - 121.04 mph
(6) Stan Allen - 4.184 et - 178.02 mph (**WINNER**)

Allen has been a consistent performer this season while Weatherford has made huge strides in the Bickel Camaro, which is for sale by the way.

Wow, another upset as Weatherford goes -.024 red & hands the round win to Allen!!!

Balttle For The Belts XTF

(1) Billy Glidden - 4.193 et - 172.01 mph (**WINNER**)
(8) Steve Gorman - 10.924 et - 38.30 mph

Without question Glidden has been the story in XTF this season, setting the ET record & winning 3 of the 5 events he entered. Gorman is the defending champ but has had a difficult season.

Gorman turns on both bulbs at one time, but Glidden is ready, leaves first & makes a great lap to take the win.

(4) Gary White - 4.730 et - 172.28 mph
(5) Steve Kirk - 4.161 et - 176.26 mph (**WINNER**)

This is the most intriguing match-up of the round, pitting White in the wicked 183cu 6-cylinder turbo against the 800+ cu NOS monster of Steve Kirk. White has the Arm Drop finals victory to his credit while Kirk has been to 3 finals this season, failing to cash in each time .

WOW, White goes -.029 red & then shakes the tires as Kirk makes a killer run to take the round win!

(2) Mike Hill - 4.242 et - 173.90 mph (**WINNER**)
(7) Michelle Wilson - 9.563 et - 43.35 mph

Hill has won 2 races this season while Wilson is the only full-time female competitor on the ADRL scene.

Hill leaves first with a great light & Wilson shakes the tires right off the starting line.

(3) Todd Moyer - 4.212 et - 176.37 mph (**WINNER**)
(6) David Janes - 4.319 et - 173.49 mph

We have an interesting turbo vs nos battle here. Janes has a race win to his credit this season while Moyer has really been making strides with the turbo combo, currently holding the XTF mph record.

These guys make a last minute lane change. Also Moyer has a brand new setup in the racecar today. And it takes him to a round win with a great pass!!! Janes had a .015 light but it was not enough.

Battle For The Belts PXM

(1) Ron Procopio - 4.330 et - 168.47 mph (**WINNER**)
(8) T.T. Jones - 5.859 et - 80.80 mph

Procopio had a stellar season in this ultra-competitive class, going to 3 final rounds with 2 event victories to his credit, while also leading the points chase.

These guys leave together & Procopio pulls away for the victory.

(4) Nikie Corley - 4.353 et - 167.52 mph (**WINNER**)
(5) Charlie Prophit - 4.336 et - 147.70 mph

Both riders have race wins this season & Corley owns the current class MPH record.

WOW, Corley with a .002 light & the holeshot win!!!

(2) Matt Prophit - 4.477 et - 149.00 mph
(7) Scott Gray - 4.284 et - 173.25 mph (**WINNER**)

The younger Prophit burst on the scene this season, going to 3 final rounds en-rout to 2 victories.

And Prophit was ready with a .008 light, but did not have enough to hold off Gray who made a great pass!

(3) Billy Vose - 4.439 et - 164.85 mph (**WINNER**)
(6) Jack Young - 4.379 et - 164.41 mph

Vose is the defending world champ & has one race victory in 2008.

Young goes -.003 red handing the win to Vose, who hgad a .008 light himself!!

ADRL'S PLAYOFF SYSTEM SHINES

Unlike other racing series that follow NASCAR’s lead and arbitrarily reset their points order after a prescribed number of

ADRL_Nowling.jpg
The Battle for the Belts that determine each year’s ADRL world champions initially came about as a means to entice racers to make the long tow to Texas, series president Kenny Nowling says, but have now become a defining point of ADRL racing culture.
events, the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard employs a unique, end-of-year “playoff” amongst its top racers to determine each season’s world champions.

The top eight points earners in each of four professional ADRL classes will face off in the Battle for the Belts tournament this Friday night (Oct. 24) to open the 4th annual LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals at the Texas Motorplex, just south of Dallas. Only Belts contenders will race each other, eliminating the potential for non-qualifiers to play the role of “spoiler.”

It’s a format guaranteed to create excitement and tension and one that’s prone to upsets, as evidenced last year by 18-year-old Pro Nitrous driver Jamie Hancock rising from the eighth and final position to become the youngest major drag racing series champion in history. But the ADRL’s Battle for the Belts was born more out of necessity than the stroke of competitive genius it’s become, admits president Kenny Nowling.

“That first year (2005), we needed a way to convince the top guys to come all the way out to Texas for the final race,” Nowling explains. “Most of them were used to running these outlaw Quick 8 races wherever they lived, so I came up with the Belts idea for the top eight guys in points to battle it out, but I also needed some kind of incentive for everyone else to show up, too.”

That’s where the decision to apply all points earned by all competitors throughout the World Finals—including Battle for the Belts racers—toward establishing the fields for the next year’s Belts showdown. As added enticement, a 50-point bonus is paid to each driver that competes in all races leading up to the World Finals each year—which of course makes the last race of the season just as important to attend as the first race of the following calendar year.

“It’s a little confusing to describe at first,” Nowling concedes, “but it’s worked out better than I could ever have imagined. Our racers have really embraced the total concept and it’s become a real point of pride for them just to make it into the elite eight that gets to race for a championship on Friday night.”

So, ADRL fans in Texas will get to see world champions crowned Friday night after three rounds of racing each in Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme 10.5, Pro Nitrous and Pro Extreme, the quickest and fastest full-bodied, doorslammer cars in the world. Then they’ll get to see another complete race of 16-car (and bike) fields on Saturday, with all racing all weekend from a standing start over an eighth-mile distance (660 feet).

“The emotion on Friday during the Battle for the Belts is unbelievable,” Nowling says. “You can sense the tension and desire to win in every driver and crewmember you see. It truly is a championship atmosphere.”

ADRL'S HEATED BATTLES COME DOWN TO THE WIRE THIS WEEKEND

For the past 12 months, the stars of the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard

ADRL_PX_Hernandez.jpg
ADRL Pro Extreme points leader Joshua Hernandez enjoyed a record-setting three wins in a row with his supercharged ’57 Chevy to open the 2008 ADRL season. He will face off against fellow Texan Wes Johnston in the opening round of the Battle for the Belts to determine this year’s champion.
have been working toward this weekend at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX.

On Friday night (Oct. 24), the 4th annual LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals will open with the ADRL’s unique Battle for the Belts, which pits the top eight points earners in each of four professional classes against each other in single-elimination playoffs to determine the series 2008 world champions. Just like last year, Saturday’s action will actually usher in the next season as points earned in qualifying and elimination rounds will count toward the 2009 Battle for the Belts.

The ADRL’s all-pro show features teams from all across the country competing in just four classes, including Pro Extreme Motorcycle (PXM), Extreme 10.5 (XTF), Pro Nitrous (PN) and Pro Extreme (PX), all racing from a standing start over an eighth-mile distance (660 feet). Each class in the Battle for the Belts features first-round match-ups that would be more than worthy of final rounds at any race in the country, leaving many Belts contenders feeling nervous.

ADRL_PN_Harper.jpg
Pro Nitrous veteran Billy Harper won a record-tying three races in a row earlier this year and heads into the ADRL’s 2008 Battle for the Belts with the points lead and a first-round appointment with Burton Auxier on Friday night at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas.
“We’re heading into the Battle for the Belts in the points lead, which doesn’t mean a whole lot given the caliber of cars we’re facing,” said Pro Extreme star Joshua Hernandez, who opened this season with a record-setting three straight race wins. “But hey, at least we have lane choice for the first round.”

Hernandez initially will face off against fellow Texan Wes Johnston, who earned the number-one qualifying position in Georgia early in the season. Mississippi’s Bubba Stanton, the series most recent race champion and second-place points finisher, will battle former event winner Brian Daniels in the opener, while defending series champ Jason Scruggs will go up against veteran Bil Clanton, a three-time former ADRL winner. The last first-round Belts pairing will feature number-four finisher Travis Swearingen against Texan Frankie Taylor, after both notched career-first ADRL victories this summer.

ADRL_XTF_Glidden.jpg
Despite missing the first three points-paying events, second-generation star Billy Glidden finished the ADRL’s 2008 points chase in first place after winning three of the five Extreme 10.5 races he entered. Glidden will take on defending class champ Steve Gorman in the season-ending Battle for the Belts.
“I was talking to Jason (Scruggs) about it and we’re both just hoping to get past the first round,” Stanton admitted. “You can’t take anyone lightly out here and there’s just so many things that can go wrong. It’s not like NASCAR where you can come back; it all happens so fast here and one little mistake will put you out.”

It’s no different in Pro Nitrous, where Billy Harper finished number one after a record-setting romp through the class that included three consecutive event wins mid-season. In round one of the Battle, Harper has to take on Burton Auxier, a recent addition to the powerhouse Al Anabi Awesome Motorsports team, while his teammate, Dennis Radford, in second and the defending Ennis event winner, will have the always formidable Rickie Smith, who also won his first ADRL race earlier this year. Number-three seeded Randy Weatherford and number-six Stan Allen, both still seeking that elusive first win, are destined to meet in the opening round, as are series superstars Shannon Jenkins and Jim Halsey, both of whom secured ADRL race titles in 2008.

“[The Battle for the Belts] is my kind of racing,” Harper said at a recent event. “I think my team is the best there is at going over the car and making sure everything is as perfect as it can be and that’s what it’s going to take to win in Dallas, perfection.”
ADRL_PXM_Procopio.jpg
Ronnie Procopio took over the Pro Extreme Motorcycle points lead and secured the number-one position for the ADRL’s championship-deciding Battle for the Belts with his win last month at Rockingham, NC. Procopio’s first-round opponent will be T.T. Jones.

With three wins in the last five events, it’s easy to believe points leader Billy Glidden has the hot hand going into the Extreme 10.5 (named for the cars’ relatively narrow 10.5-inch-wide rear slicks) Battle for the Belts, but he’s certainly not taking his first-round pairing with defending class champion Steve Gorman lightly.

“Some people don’t believe it, but I’m pushing my car really hard,” Glidden said of his Ford-powered GTO after winning the most recent ADRL event last month in North Carolina. “Anything could break at any second, so it doesn’t matter who I’m racing, I have to take them all seriously. To do anything else would just be foolish.”

Looking to avenge his loss in the Battle for the Belts final last year will be this year’s Georgia winner Mike Hill, going up against Texas racer Michelle Wilson, the lone female driver making a championship charge in the ADRL. Also squaring off in the Belts’ first round are Todd Moyer, also from Texas, against David Janes, the class winner in Ohio this year, and Gary White, the winner in Michigan, against former elapsed time record holder Steve Kirk Jr.

The ADRL’s two-wheeled warriors will be led into the Pro Extreme Motorcycle Battle by Ronnie Procopio, who backed up his Houston win in March with last month’s race title at Rockingham to become the first-ever, two-event PXM winner in one year.  Procopio will open his championship bid against T.T. Jones, one of the larger riders in the series.

“Just like everyone else, you can’t take T.T. for granted. Despite his size, he can throw down a 4.20 at any time, so you have to be ready. Your bike is going to have to be running in top condition, so we’ll be going out testing a lot before the race. I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got. We won’t be holding anything back,” Procopio promised. “I’m excited, but I’ll be honest, I’m nervous, very nervous. You’ve got to be on top of your game because any one of the eight (qualifiers) are capable of winning and you can get taken out any round.”

No doubt feeling much the same way will be rookie rider Matt Prophit, with three runner-up finishes, as he goes up against Scott Gray, who won his first ADRL event this summer. Defending class champ Billy Vose, also a winner in Ohio, has former ADRL winner Jack Young in round one of the Battle, while Nikie Corley and Charlie Prophit, both event winners this season, round out the first-round pairings.

Past editions of the ADRL’s Battle for the Belts have produced both expected champions and underdog triumphs. With the tightest fields ever, the 2008 version of the greatest playoff in motorsports will undoubtedly continue the drama. All that remains to be seen is who will turn on the win lights this Friday night at the Motorplex.
