There was a time when Modified Eliminator, the old NHRA division dominated by stick-shift Corvettes, Camaros and Chevy II's had its own personalities. One of those iconic brands were the Checkmate cars of Mike Keener and Paul Mercure. Nothing is official but the duo are reportedly planning to make a run at Comp Eliminator soon. It will be interesting to see if this rumor pans out, and if it does whether they will run late model or classic cars. Sure would be nice to hear a 5-speed with a 50-pound flywheel again.
