Matt Stutzman, known globally as the “Armless Archer” for his achievements in competitive archery without the use of arms, has qualified for the NHRA U.S. Nationals after reaching his longtime goal of 200 mph in his race car.

Stutzman will compete in the Top Sportsman category at the “Big Go,” drag racing’s most prestigious event, set for Aug. 27-Sept. 1 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. The Paralympic medalist said qualifying for the event represents another milestone in his pursuit of excellence.

“Making it into the field at Indy is surreal,” Stutzman said. “I set my sights on 200 mph, and once we reached that, the next challenge was getting into the U.S. Nationals. To be here among the best of the best in drag racing is an incredible honor.”

Stutzman credits much of his success to PennGrade 1 High Performance Oil, which has supported his racing program. “PennGrade 1 is an incredible partner,” he said. “Their products help us get the performance and reliability we need, and their support means the world as we chase big goals like this.”

Stutzman earned international recognition as a Paralympic medalist and motivational figure before shifting his focus to drag racing. His path from the archery range to the dragstrip has drawn attention across sports communities.

If there was an award for the most inspiring story in drag racing, Matt Stutzman would win it feet down.

Wait, shouldn’t that be “hands down”?

In most cases, probably yes. But Stutzman doesn’t have hands or arms – he was born without them. However, that hasn’t stopped the Iowa resident from attaining some outstanding achievements in life.

At 42, Stutzman has not let his disability stop him or define him. He has accomplished things that individuals with hands can only dream about.

For example, the married father of three is both a gold and silver medalist in the Paralympics in a sport known for athletes who use their hands: archery.
