Four-time series champion Andy Jensen has taken over leadership of the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) following the retirement of founder and president John Mazzorana. Mazzorana announced his retirement after 32 years with the organization, which he guided through various challenges.

Jensen, a longtime participant in NEOPMA, has been actively involved in discussions with stakeholders, including drivers, car owners, track owners, and sponsors. He is now preparing for the 2025 NEOPMA season and has addressed his plans in an open letter to the drag racing community.

“When I heard the news that John was going to retire, it prompted me to reflect on how much the NEOPMA has meant to me as a Pro Mod racer,” Jensen wrote. “I made my Pro Mod debut for them in 2003… There were times when John and I had disagreements on rule packages and payout structures, but he always did what he felt was best for the club.”

Jensen thanked Mazzorana for his contributions, stating, “On behalf of myself and many other Pro Mod racers – thank you, John Mazzorana.”

He described NEOPMA as “the best deal in Pro Mod racing,” noting its affordability and relaxed atmosphere. Jensen emphasized that the club motivates racers to improve while providing qualifying payouts and reasonable entry fees.

After discussing Mazzorana’s retirement, Jensen took the initiative to reach out to fellow racers and track owners. He found considerable interest in the club’s continuation, which led him to commit to keeping NEOPMA operational.

“I had hoped someone would step up and keep the NEOPMA going, but there was no sign of it happening,” Jensen stated. “Nearly everyone was interested in the club continuing to exist, so I decided to do my best to keep it going.”

Despite his busy schedule managing an engine shop and racing three cars, Jensen felt compelled to lead NEOPMA. “I am willing to donate my time to run the club and seek no financial compensation for it,” he said.

He noted that for NEOPMA to succeed, the benefits must outweigh the effort to ensure continued participation. Jensen aims to bolster race payouts, which will require securing sponsorship.

For the 2025 season, Jensen has already secured funding from several sponsors, including M&M Transmission and Maxima Racing Oil. However, he indicated that the club needs more financial support to consider the year a success.

“While these current sponsors are appreciated, we absolutely need more,” Jensen remarked. “The 2025 schedule with five races will go on as planned, but if more funding comes in, I will try to book two more races.”

The 2025 NEOPMA season will include the following events:

Maryland International Raceway: May 16-17 (16 cars)
Empire Dragway: June 20-21 (16 cars)
New England Dragway: July 25-26 (8-car shootout)
Empire Dragway: August 15-16 (16 cars)
Maryland International Raceway: September 26-27 (16 cars)

Jensen expressed his commitment to NEOPMA and outlined plans for promotional efforts to attract potential sponsors. He encouraged businesses that benefit from the existence of the club to consider its value.

More racers on the track means more opportunities for parts sales, which could help support the club’s future. Jensen urged interested parties to reach out for collaboration and support.
