As of April 3, 2026, Bristol Dragway is undergoing a reconstruction project focused on its racing surface. Construction crews are working to address drainage concerns, surface irregularities, and overall track consistency.
The project includes installation of a new concrete surface from the starting line through the eighth-mile mark, an area that experiences the greatest stress during race launches.
Track officials said minor imperfections had developed over time, prompting the need for a rebuild rather than continued maintenance.
If weather permits, officials plan to pour the new concrete between April 14 and 16. The track will then remain idle to allow the surface to cure before competition resumes.
“This project is all about making Bristol Dragway even better for the racers and fans who love Thunder Valley,” said Jerry Caldwell, president and general manager of Bristol Motor Speedwayand Bristol Dragway. “We’re making strong progress, and when the new surface is ready, it’s going to set the stage for an exciting season ahead.”
Several early-season events have been postponed due to the construction schedule, including the April 18 Street Fights and DER Series events planned for April 24–26 and May 1–3.
Track officials expect the project to be completed ahead of the June 12–14 NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals.
