Buddy Hull will return to NHRA team ownership in 2026, launching a new chapter under the Hull Racing banner after parting ways with Jim Dunn Racing. Hull said he will compete full-time in Funny Car beginning at the NHRA Gatornationals, scheduled for March 6-8 at Gainesville Raceway.

Hull drove for Jim Dunn Racing for two seasons, earning multiple quarterfinal appearances while developing as a full-time nitro competitor. He said the decision to step out independently reflects both professional growth and broader business ambitions.

“I want to thank Jim Dunn Racing for the opportunity to race a nitro Funny Car full-time,” Hull said. “After the experiences of the past two seasons the time was right for me to take ownership of my career and brand. I have a lot of business opportunities on and off the track and this was the perfect time to take the next step in my Funny Car career.”

Hull’s new operation will remain in the Funny Car ranks with a two-car fleet based out of his Dallas-area shop. Crew chiefs Mike Guger and Johnny West will oversee the program, marking a reunion and expansion of Hull’s previous technical partnerships.

Hull said the team has already begun preparations for preseason testing, noting the goal is to compete as a mid-3.90-second contender in what is expected to be a tightly matched 2026 Funny Car field. He emphasized that continuity with Guger and the addition of West will form the foundation of the team’s competitive strategy.

“I have worked with Mike for a number of years and adding the expertise of Johnny West to my team will give us a great 1-2 punch,” Hull said. “We will be ready to go every qualifying session and every elimination round. I am excited for the future, and we have some great marketing partners that will be along for the ride.”

Beyond the racetrack, Hull plans to continue developing his personal brand through media and corporate engagements. His television show, Talkin’ Funny Cars with Buddy Hull, will continue production into 2026 with expanded promotional programming connected to his new ownership venture.

Hull Racing will announce additional sponsorships and partnerships during the 2026 PRI Show in Indianapolis. More details will be released throughout the offseason as the team counts down to its Gainesville debut.

“This is the next step, and I am ready for it,” Hull said.
