Dean Carter, John Fogle, Madison Wilson and Sandy Wilkins headlined Thursday’s qualifying leaders at the NHRA Carolina 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C.
Carter, from Peoria, Ariz., took the top position in Comp Eliminator. Driving his Chevy-powered A/ND dragster, he clocked a 6.772, .648 seconds under his index. Glenn Treadwell of Eustis, Fla., and Melissa Murphy of Long Beach, Calif., followed in second and third.
Fogle set the pace in Super Stock with a strong run of 9.520 seconds in his ’05 Cavalier, going .980 under the index. Michael Howard of Ellabell, Ga., nearly matched him with an 8.221 in his ’19 Camaro, while veteran Dan Fletcher of Selma, N.C., landed third at 8.703 in his Mustang.


Wilson highlighted Stock Eliminator qualifying, using her ’83 Camaro to post an 11.219 run, .931 under the index. Tim Barrett of Fort Ann, N.Y., placed second with his ’69 Camaro at 10.781, and Willie Mylin of Ravenel, S.C., slotted third in another ’83 Camaro.
In Top Sportsman, Wilkins of Mount Ulla, N.C., drove his ’69 Camaro to the top with a 6.344-second run at 226.24 mph. Jeff Brooks of Fredericksburg, Va., wheeled his ’51 Henry J into the second slot with a 6.428 at 217.32, and Doug Crumlich of Douglasville, Ga., was third in his ’63 Corvette at 6.583.
Sportsman qualifying continues on Friday, with eliminations scheduled for some of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series categories.
