Cory Reed is competing at the 40th annual NHRA Reading Nationals presented by Nitro Fish in a Chevrolet Camaro with a special design to raise awareness for childhood and ovarian cancer. The KB Titan Racing-powered Pro Stock entry carries the tribute as September marks the designated month for both causes.
Reed’s son, Theo, recently completed chemotherapy, while his aunt, Anita Strasburg, is undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer. To honor them, Reed’s J&A Service Camaro displays a gold ribbon down one side for childhood cancer awareness and a teal ribbon on the other to represent ovarian cancer awareness.
“The purpose behind it is to bring awareness, and if seeing it on my car drives people to learn more about it, donate, or help in some form, that’s great,” Reed says. “If it helps in any way, that’s what it’s all about.”
The Norwalk national event winner says the design sparks conversation as well as provides encouragement to those facing similar battles. Reed notes that small gestures often bring the greatest impact in spreading awareness and motivating others to act.
Reed is seventh quickest after two sessions with a 6.541 elapsed time at 210.11 miles per hour. He has two more sessions to improve in Saturday’s qualifying.
Information on childhood cancer research is available at nationalpcf.org, and details on ovarian cancer research can be found at ocrahope.org. Reed says he hopes fans take time to learn more about both causes while supporting the racers at Maple Grove.
