ROUND-BY-ROUND RESULTS FROM HOUSTON

Final round-by-round results from the 20th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals
presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park, the fourth of 23 events in the
NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series:

FIRSTS FOR BAZEMORE

Whit Bazemore’s vault to the top of the Top Fuel
qualifying order, was his 30th career and first in Top Fuel. Bazemore
wasn't optimistic about Friday’s best run holding through Saturday’s
qualifying.

When Saturday's qualifying never happened, Bazemore didn't mind being wrong.

TOLIVER "I'M STILL A ROCKSTAR"

Jerry Toliver didn't get to Gainesville, as he had
hoped. And he appeared in Houston,
with the Toyota Solara Funny Car that Jeff Diehl will drive for sponsor
Rockstar Energy Drink in International Hot Rod Association competition. But he
said Saturday he wanted to correct any rumors about his deal.

"Rockstar is extremely happy. We have a great relationship.
It's a three-year contract. We're just excited to get going," Toliver
said.

OCEAN43.COM TEAMS WITH POWERS

Ocean43.com, a new secure and private online
system to both store documents and connect with friends, family and business
associates, has joined David Powers Motorsports as an associate sponsor, team
owner David Powers announced today. The Ocean43.com logos will fly on the rear
wing of NHRA point’s leader Rod Fuller’s dragster.

Ocean43.com, developed by SBT Marketing, LLC, offers
both the private community and data storage on one site in three key sections.
“Community” allows O43 members to privately connect with others in several ways
such as e-mailing, scheduling calendar events, sharing pictures, documents and
movie clips, and adding to the community blog. Only invited guests can be part
of a community and can be assigned varying levels of access. “Vaults” allows
members to store personal and business documents, such as financial records,
pictures, recipes and movie clips. The final section no Ocean43.com is
“Contacts,” where members can store personal and business contact
information.

NEW PRO MODIFIED COMBINATION

Two PMRA champions are teaming up for what could be a strong offensive for the
upcoming Pro Modified Racing Association tour.

One of last year’s co-winners, Kasey
Janzen of St. Catharines, ON, will be handing over the driving duties to 2005
PMRA champ Joe Lilienthal of Kenmore, NY.

“I’m stepping down this year,” said Janzen, who has raced
the KC Motorsports Chevy Lumina Pro Modified for several seasons. “I’m more
interested in the back side of racing,” he added. “I want to get more into the
clutch management and the computer side of things.”

SEVERE TIRE VIBRATION BLAMED IN DEATH

Severe tire vibration, and not the impact of the low angle crash against a
retaining wall, is being blamed in the death of Funny Car driver Eric Medlen,
according to the Houston Chronicle. The report says that is what was told to
NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series drivers and crew chiefs in a meeting Friday
morning. The report also claimed that the accident was blamed initially on a
tire blowout, but investigative findings point to the extreme tire vibration
caused by an unknown source or sources led to Medlen's head trauma and the tire
blowout.

FRIDAY HOUSTON QUALIFYING

MEDLEN RECEIVES
TRIBUTE AS NHRA RETURNS TO COMPETITION AT O'REILLY SPRING
NATIONALS

Bazemore, Cruz
Pedregon, Coughlin and Matt Smith earn provisional No. 1 qualifying
positions

bazemoreDSB_7036.JPGNineteen-year Funny Car veteran Whit Bazemore is turning out to be a quick
study in Top Fuel as he raced to the provisional No. 1 spot in just his fourth
race in the class, posting a 4.514 at 326.87 mph to lead Friday qualifying at
the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil.

Racing
stopped momentarily during the first round of Funny Car qualifying when the spot
that would have been reserved for Eric Medlen, the popular driver who died one
week earlier after a crash in testing, came up.

Track
announcer Bob Frey spoke for a couple of minutes before a tribute video was
shown on Motel 6 Vision and a moment of silence was
observed.

TWO CHAMPIONS GONE

It’s quite possible that
Eric Medlen and Robert E. Petersen had never heard of each other, yet their
untimely deaths – both last Friday – will send ripples through the world of
motorsports for a long time to come.
  Separated by miles – Medlen
passed away in Florida, Petersen in Los Angeles – and years --
Petersen, at 80, was 47 years older than Medlen – they
were both dedicated to the sport of drag racing.
Each, in his own special way, played an important role
in the sport, one largely historical, the other as current as today’s
headlines.

In some small sense Petersen’s involvement in the
quarter mile sport literally decades ago may have played a role in Medlen’s
having been able to compete today.
  In 1948 Petersen began peddling
a hastily put together, black & white “magazine” out of the back of an old
panel wagon for a whopping twenty-five cents.
Eagerly snapped up by participants at car shows and
dry lakes speed contests in Southern California, copies of those first issues of
Hot Rod Magazine
now command top dollar from
collectors.
  With
Hot Rod as its lynchpin, Petersen Publishing Company soon
spun off a whole series of automotive-related titles, including the likes of
Car
Craft, Motor Trend
and numerous
others.

RACING WITH HEAVY HEARTS

As the Powerade Drag Racing Series headed to Houston Raceway
Park for the O'Reilly Spring Nationals, the fourth of 23 races, competitors in
all four pro classes shared their memories of Eric Medlen and how they plan to
honor the late Funny Car driver from John Force Racing by carrying on:
