The drag racing community is rallying behind the launch of the Hero Haverly Memorial Fund, a dedicated effort created to honor the life, values, and legacy of Chris Haverly by supporting causes that mattered deeply to him.
The fund—often referred to simply as “Chris’s money”—will directly support spay and neuter programs, emergency animal assistance, and help address outstanding expenses faced by the Haverly family following his passing. Organizers emphasized that the account is intentionally separate, protected, and mission-focused.
All disbursements from the Hero Haverly Memorial Fund will be made only with the approval of Paula Coffey and/or the Haverly family, ensuring every dollar is used exactly as intended: to help the family and to continue helping animals in need throughout Southwest Virginia in Chris’s memory.
“This is about continuing the work Chris cared about,” organizers said. “It’s about stepping up the way he always did—quietly, sincerely, and without expecting recognition.”
Haverly’s impact extended far beyond drag racing coverage. He was known for his willingness to help others, his compassion for animals, and his belief that doing the right thing didn’t require an audience. Those closest to him say the fund reflects that same spirit—practical, selfless, and rooted in community.
The Hero Haverly Memorial Fund also serves as a call to action for those who admired Chris’s work and character. Contributions are not only a way to assist the Haverly family, but also a means of continuing a mission that defined who he was.
“We truly have giant shoes to fill,” the organizers noted. “Our responsibility is to make him proud.”
Supporters are encouraged to share the initiative and contribute if they are able, helping ensure that Chris Haverly’s legacy continues to make a difference—both for people and for animals—long after his final byline.
