The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) has finalized the acquisition of Milan Dragway. This quarter-mile track, located 40 miles west of Detroit, has hosted numerous IHRA national events since its opening in 1964.
Kurt Johnson’s TVC, a leader in track preparation, is currently implementing significant enhancements to the track surface and pit areas. Updates to the 2025 schedule will be posted on the track’s social media pages.
While short-term inconveniences may arise, improvements aim to elevate Milan Dragway to a premier drag strip. Johnny Quick, a veteran racer and notable figure from Street Outlaws, has been appointed track manager.
“(IHRA owner) Darryl Cuttell is making major investments in the track,” Quick said. “His goal is to make it one of the premier race tracks in the world.”

Plans for upgrades include renovations to grandstands, restrooms, concessions, and other facilities to enhance the fan experience. Historically, Milan Dragway has seen legendary winners like “Big Daddy” Don Garlits and six-time IHRA World Champion Clay Millican.
More recently, the track has hosted notable No Prep and Heads-Up events and is recognized for its robust multi-purpose use, including swap meets and car shows. Car and Driver and Automobile magazine have also utilized Milan Dragway for automotive testing.
Quick, who has called Milan Dragway his home track for over 20 years, expressed optimism about its future. “You want your home track to be the best, and I think that Milan Dragway is going to be one of the best tracks around,” he said.
