The International Hot Rod Association has made a $10 million charitable donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, marking one of the largest philanthropic contributions in the sanctioning body’s history and underscoring a renewed emphasis on community impact beyond motorsports.
The donation was announced following a visit by IHRA leadership to the St. Jude campus in Memphis, where officials toured research facilities and patient care areas and met with representatives of the hospital’s medical and support teams.
IHRA owner Darryl Cuttell said the decision reflects both an organizational priority and a personal connection to the hospital and its mission. He noted that his time living in Memphis and relationships with medical professionals familiar with St. Jude helped shape his understanding of the hospital’s reach and responsibility.
“This donation is made on behalf of IHRA, but it is also deeply personal to me,” Cuttell said. “I lived in Memphis for a period of my life, close to St. Jude, and through friends who were medical providers there, I heard firsthand stories of the compassion, innovation, and hope that define this extraordinary institution. Touring the facility today further reinforced just how impactful their work truly is.”
Beyond the immediate contribution, IHRA officials said the organization intends to collaborate with St. Jude on future fundraising initiatives aimed at increasing awareness and generating ongoing support for the hospital’s work. Those efforts are expected to include race-related activations and broader outreach designed to engage fans, teams, and partners.
The planned collaboration aligns with St. Jude’s longstanding mission to ensure that no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay. Hospital leaders have emphasized that large-scale donations and sustained partnerships are critical to advancing research and maintaining comprehensive care programs.
For IHRA, the donation represents a broader shift in how the organization defines its role within the communities where it operates. Officials said motorsports can serve as a platform not only for competition and entertainment but also for meaningful engagement that extends beyond the racetrack.
“Our events bring people together and create memorable experiences for families,” Cuttell said. “Partnering with St. Jude allows us to deepen our impact — supporting families not just with moments of joy, but with meaningful treatment, care, and hope when it matters most.”
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its leadership in treating childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases and for sharing its discoveries globally to improve outcomes worldwide.
