Melanie Johnson will open the 2026 season with a new primary partner, announcing Speedmaster will back her Top Alcohol Dragster campaign beginning at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona. The partnership debuts April 9-12 at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip, marking a significant step in Johnson’s pursuit of a Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series championship.
The agreement pairs a rising driver with a performance brand rooted in engineering and manufacturing, creating a collaboration centered on both competition and business growth. It also places Johnson in a dual role, contributing on track while assisting Speedmaster’s digital marketing strategy off it.
That balance reflects a deliberate approach Johnson has taken in building her career. She has sought partnerships that extend beyond sponsorship decals and into long-term brand alignment.
“I met Melissa Parra (COO of Speedmaster) at a Women in Motorsports North America event last year, and our initial conversation quickly turned into a shared vision for how we could work together,” said Johnson. “After touring their facility in Los Angeles and talking with CEO Jason Kencevski, I was struck by the professionalism of their team and the legacy of their business. There is a clear parallel between the performance-driven mindset at Speedmaster and the way my dad and I have always approached racing. I’ve been working to put a program like this together since I started my career, and I’m grateful that Jason and Melissa recognized my passion for both marketing and racing.”
Johnson’s progression into 2026 follows a rookie season that established her as a contender within the Top Alcohol Dragster ranks. She secured a North Central Regional victory in Norwalk, finished inside the Top 10 in national points, and earned recognition on Drag Illustrated’s 30 Under 30 list.
Her trajectory has continued upward entering the new season. Johnson was also named a 2026 Shift Up Now Athlete, further reinforcing her growing presence within motorsports and beyond.
For Speedmaster, the decision to align with Johnson was rooted in preparation as much as performance. Company leadership cited her understanding of branding and commitment to execution as key factors in the partnership.
“What made this partnership straightforward was how Melanie operates. She came to Speedmaster with a clear understanding of the brand, a plan for how she could contribute on and off the track, and the work ethic to back it up. She races, she’s building her own path in the sport, and she brings the same discipline to marketing and brand representation that the Johnson name is known for on the starting line,” said Melissa Parra, COO of Speedmaster.
The collaboration extends into Johnson’s continued role with McPhillips Racing, where she will again compete under the guidance of Rich McPhillips Sr. and Rich McPhillips Jr. The team remains focused on contending for the 2026 Top Alcohol Dragster world title.
With the Pomona debut approaching, the partnership provides both visibility and expectation. It also reinforces Johnson’s position as part of the next wave of drivers balancing competitive performance with modern brand engagement.
As Johnson prepares for her home-track unveiling, the emphasis remains on execution rather than introduction. “There is a clear parallel between the performance-driven mindset at Speedmaster and the way my dad and I have always approached racing,” Johnson said.
