Facing a forecast calling for near-constant rain through the weekend, NHRA officials announced significant schedule changes for the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals, moving nearly all Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series eliminations to Thursday in an effort to complete competition before the storms arrive.

According to the updated plan, racing in Stock, Super Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Top Dragster, Competition Eliminator, and Top Sportsman will begin Thursday morning, November 13, with the intent to run all rounds to completion that same day.

While officials acknowledged the decision would be unpopular, the sanctioning body said the move was necessary given rain probabilities of 95 to 100 percent from Friday through Sunday. NHRA emphasized the goal is to finish championships rather than risk keeping racers stranded at the track with little chance of completing the event.

Competitors who choose not to participate under the new schedule can withdraw by not appearing for first-round eliminations. Those entries will receive credit toward a 2026 NHRA national event, and any additional credentials purchased will be refunded.

Stock and Super Stock will adopt the same random pairing format used in Super Comp and Super Gas, based on lane choice, with no heads-up matchups in the opening round. Top Dragster, Competition Eliminator, and Top Sportsman fields will retain ladders determined by season points.

NHRA officials said these adjustments were designed to maintain fairness across categories despite the abrupt shift in scheduling.

For Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car teams, NHRA indicated qualifying schedules remain subject to change. At least one round of qualifying is planned for Thursday, but more sessions could be added if weather permits. The first qualifying session could start as early as 2:30 p.m.

Officials reiterated that the situation is beyond their control but said the decision was made in the best interest of racers’ time, safety, and expenses.

“We sincerely apologize for the situation, but it is simply out of our control at this point,” the NHRA statement read. “This is not a decision we came to lightly, but given the negative forecast, which stretches well into next week, we believe this is the fairest solution to avoid keeping racers at the track for several days and with a potential of not racing.”

The organization also thanked competitors for their understanding and commitment as the season comes to a close.

Despite the unprecedented midweek race plan, NHRA remains determined to complete the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series season at Pomona before the weather arrives.
