This time, courtesy of Diamond P Sports, we bring you coverage of the 1977 NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown, NJ. Travel back in time when the term Summernationals was one of the major and ALWAYS meant drag racing in July at the famed Raceway Park.

Ontario Motor Speedway was a motorsport venue located in Ontario, California. It was the first and only automobile racing facility built to accommodate major races sanctioned by all of the four dominant racing sanctioning bodies: USAC (and now IndyCar Series) for open-wheel oval car races; NASCAR for a 500-mile (800 km) oval stock car races; NHRA for drag races; and FIA for Formula One road course races. Constructed in less than two years, the track opened in August 1970 and was considered state of the art at the time.

NHRA added four new races to its expanding schedule in 1988. One of those four was a track new to the national scene, even though Sonoma had first held sanctioned events as early as 1969. You will see the legends like Joe Amato, Don Prudhomme, Bob Glidden, and so much more. This particular season would be the first of the explosive and expanding years of the sanctioning body.

In 1988, just three years after the passing of track founder John Bandimere Sr., Bandimere Speedway undergoes a $4.2 Million dollar renovation. The facility returns to action in 1989 with a barn burner of an event. There's a bit of everything in this 1989 broadcast from near tragedy to emotional triumph. This race also marked the first of the Mopar sponsorship of the event. Join us in enjoying one of the greatest events ever.

Anytime you combine an eighteen-wheeler, fried chicken and wheelstands in a story, it's bound to be a winner. This is the story of how Jeff Taylor, fresh off of an NHRA World Championship, took his Super Stocker to a local drag strip and made off like a bandit, literally.

An enterprising track owner took advantage of having the local superstar on hand to boost sales and put on a show in one fell swoop. Taylor was all too willing to oblige.

This is one of the last Mile High Nationals before the facility closed at the end of 1987 for a major overhaul.

Eddie Hill enjoyed one of his best national event outings by defeating Gary Ormsby, Shirley Muldowney, and Joe Amato to meet Larry Minor in the final round of Top Fuel. Unfortunately for Hill, he was unable to back up after his burnout due to a broken reverser and couldn’t make a pass, handing the title to Minor.

The honest truth is this video while it does cover the 1971 Winternationals in Pomona, Ca., is largely comprised of historical clips from where drag racing had come from up to this point.

"This point" will forever be known as the event where Don Garlits unveiled his new rear-engine dragster in NHRA competition. The unveiling was secondary only to the point he proved he could make it work and create a safer environment for Top Fuel racing.
