When you drive a 358 cubic inch v-8 fuel mileage is usually the last thing on your mind but in NASCAR it's a priority.

Joey Logano, who ran out of fuel while dominating last week's race at Pocono, had enough in the tank to blow by Kevin Harvick at the end and take the checkered flag in Sunday's Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen. It's the first Watkins Glen victory for Logano's team owner Roger Penske and Logano's first Sprint Cup road course victory.

Logano only led one lap the entire race believes winning this week made up for last week's disappointment.

ìIím still just trying to catch my breath," Logano said in victory lane. "I was really excited after that one. I was running down Harvick there for a little bit and once I got close to him he started to pick up his pace a little bit, which was good because I needed him to run out of gas. I started to catch him a little bit and I drove into one too hard and started to wheel hop. I just about lost it and at that point you just hope he runs out of gas, which he did in the last corner.

"It makes up for last week. We lost the race last week the same way, so it makes up for it to get it this week.î

Logano, who won Saturday's Xfinity series race at Watkins Glen, swept the weekend's events at the New York road course.

Kyle Busch, who also ran out of fuel while leading last week at Pocono, finished in second place. But more importantly for Busch, he's now inside the top 30 in the Sprint Cup points standings which means the four time race winner is eligible for a position in the Chase for the Championship.

Busch believes his team just didn't catch the breaks they needed to get the win.

"Our day was really good," Busch said. "You know, we had a really fast race car. I felt like we had one of the cars if not the car to beat. We just never really got to the front in order to show it. Even there early when we were up front, you know, we came to pit road for our first stop before I could quite get to the lead, and there again at the end of the race, we just got to the lead, just passed Brad on that restart there and was trying to check out and get as far out as we could and get as big of a lead as we could so when people started coming back down pit road, it would allow us to not lose as much time to those guys that were just going to take fuel only.  Man, those cautions all in a row just killed us.

"That was our race today.  Wasn't meant to be. Obviously there was just too many things working against us, and we weren't going to be able to get back through all of that and prevail."

Harvick, who led 29 laps before appearing to run out of fuel, still managed to finish in third place followed by Matt Kenseth in fourth place and Kurt Busch in fifth place.

Clint Bowyer crossed the finish line in sixth place followed by Brad Keselowski, who led 27 laps, in seventh with Carl Edwards, Sam Hornish, Jr, and Jimmie Johnson rounding out the top ten.

Pole winner A.J. Allmendinger led 21 laps but was plagued by electrical issues and was forced to relinquish his lead. While Allmendinger did stay on the lead lap, he could only manage a 24th place finish.
