CP MOTORSPORTS - STENHOUSE TO HONOR DAVID PEARSON WITH ICONIC NO. 17 SCHEME IN DARLINGTON

A NASCAR ‘Throwback’ weekend at Darlington Raceway and a No. 17 Ford Fusion canvas made for an undeniable invitation for a David Pearson Ford Torino retro paint scheme.  As Pearson remains the winningest driver at Darlington with 10 trips to victory lane at the historic track, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and his sponsor Cargill Beef were honored with the opportunity.

“David Pearson is not only an icon in our sport, he is one of the greatest racers of all time,” said Stenhouse.  “He knew how to save his car for when it counted and that’s why he had over 100 wins.  From the time I thought this paint scheme might be a possibility, I have been counting the days to get that car on the track at Darlington.  I only hope I do it justice.”

NASCAR RELOCATING NEW YORK OFFICE IN 2016

NASCAR, which has had an office in New York City since the 1990s, has completed a new lease agreement to move into new space just a block away from its current location. The new location keeps NASCAR in close proximity to important industry marketing and media partners and the chance to streamline and customize the office for its needs.

CP MOTORSPORTS - TOM HIGGINS: A TALE OF NASCAR'S TOUGHMAN, CALE YARBOROUGH

A pal and I were waiting out a rainstorm in a shelter while fishing a while back and started talking racin'.

"Who is the toughest, bravest driver you've seen and known in all your years of covering NASCAR?" he asked.

I replied that there have been plenty of super-tough, daredevil drivers.

I named some examples:

GET YOUR NEVER GIVE UP WRISTBAND DESIGNED BY SHERRY POLLEX, MARTIN TRUEX JR.

During a post-race interview following his June 7 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, Martin Truex Jr. was asked by a member of the media how he was able to keep going forward after all the adversity that’s confronted him over the past two seasons.

Without hesitation Truex gave a succinct and heartfelt answer -- "Never Give Up."

The "Never Give Up" saying has taken on a meaning of its own, touching Truex’s social media followers and race fans throughout the country and the world.

CP MOTORSPORTS – WHEN DARLINGTON WAS ALREADY OLD BUT I WASN’T

It's been a long time now since Darlington Raceway has run the Southern 500 on Labor Day weekend, but, by God, it’s back. It doesn't seem like a long time. They started running the race in 1950, and I'm sure some wiseacre paid for his ticket, got his first peek at the track, and yelled, "Hey! What kind of track is this? It's shaped like a damned egg!"

Or maybe he didn't. Maybe he just thought it was the Falstaff talking.

I saw my first Southern 500 in 1970. Age 12. Beginning in 1971, I had to practice football on Labor Day. Back then, the State of South Carolina, in all its pious wisdom, wouldn't allow a race on the Sabbath.

CP MOTORSPORTS - LOGANO SCORES ANOTHER BRISTOL WIN FOR PENSKE

Roger Penske has quite a legacy at Bristol Motor Speedway.

What started with Rusty Wallace throughout the 1990's now continues with Joey Logano, who grabbed his second straight win in the Irwin Tools Night Race and his third victory of the 2015 Sprint Cup season. Logano, who gave Penske his second Daytona 500 victory, now hands "The Captain" his 12th win at the .538-mile Tennessee track.

CP MOTORSPORTS - BUSCH SKATES BY AS BUESCHER RUNS DRY AT BRISTOL

Chris Buescher just didn't have enough in the tank to beat Kyle Busch.

Buescher's fuel ran dry on the race's green-white-checkered finish allowing Busch to take the checkered flag in Friday night's Food City 300. While Buescher just managed a 11th place finish, Busch celebrated his third win on the season and his eighth career Xfinity series win at Bristol.

CP MOTORSPORTS - THE JGR HOTSTREAK CONTINUES; HAMLIN WINS BRISTOL POLE

Joe Gibbs Racing's stable of Toyotas are really starting to bring the heat.

Having already notched nine victories on the season, it's easy to say JGR is in championship form. You can say the gang is one step closer to a tenth victory with Denny Hamlin winning the pole for Saturday's Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol.

CP MOTORSPORTS - GORDON JOINS LEGENDS; HONORED AT BRISTOL

Nothing says respect like having your own grandstand in the Last Great Coliseum.

Bristol Motor Speedway executive vice president and general manager Jerry Caldwell announced Jeff Gordon will have his a grandstand named in his honor in a press conference Friday. Gordon will now be alongside the likes of Richard Petty, David Pearson and Darrell Waltrip as drivers who have been honored by the track.

Caldwell believes Gordon's legacy, especially at Bristol, has earned him this honorable distinction.
