NHRA LODRS DIV. 6 RESULTS

Delta resident Shawn Cowie won his third race of the year in Top
Alcohol Dragster at the Lordco BC Nationals, a round of the NHRA Lucas
Oil Drag Racing Series, at Mission Raceway Park.  Brian Hough, Junction
City, Ore., joined Cowie in the winner’s circle after scoring the Top
Alcohol Funny Car win and Rob Harrison of North Vancouver earned the
Comp Eliminator trophy.

Cowie, who won out-of-division races in Phoenix and Las Vegas, started
the day from the No. 2 qualifying spot.  He beat High River, Alb.,
racer Ashley Bart in the opening round and in the semis he blasted a
5.290-second, 271.08 mph pass to beat Joey Severance of Spanaway,
Wash.  In the final, Cowie ran 5.330 seconds at 270.10 mph to beat Dale
Carlson of Olympia, Wash.

Hough was event’s No. 1 qualifier and due to the odd number of Top
Alcohol Funny Cars in competition, he had a bye run in the first round
then, in the semis and the final round, his competitors red-lighted.
First it was Rob Atchison, London, Ont., and in the final it was John
Evanchuk, Edmonton, Alb.

NHRA LODRS DIV. 5 FINAL QUALIFYING

In the final rounds of qualifying at Brainerd Int’l Raceway’s Thunder
on the Lakes NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, Dan Kracht,
Gretna, Neb., held on to No. 1 qualifying spot in Top Alcohol Dragster
while Roger Bateman, Calgary, Alb., moved his Top Alcohol Funny Car to
the top of the field.

Kracht blasted a 5.395-second, 256.80 mph pass in yesterday’s
qualifying and that was enough to keep him in the top spot.  Because of
the odd number of cars in competition, Kracht will have a bye run in
the first round of eliminations Sunday.  Former division champion
Richard Putz of Earlville, Iowa, made a 5.422-second, 263.41 mph lap to
move from the No. 5 spot into the No. 2 position.

Bateman, who is the defending division Funny Car champ, started the day
in the No. 6 spot and made a 5.588-second, 255.43 mph pass to put him
in the top spot.  Scott McVey, Winnipeg, Manit., is the second-place
qualifier with a 5.693-second, 253.71 mph pass.

Comp Eliminator racer Pat Nahan of St. Cloud, stayed in the No. 1
qualifying spot as did Ronald Roddel, Sioux Falls, S.D., in Super
Stock.  In Stock Eliminator, Peter Boslovitch, Lockport, Manit.,
grabbed the No. 1 spot in his ’80 Malibu.  J.J. Heber, Aurora, Colo.,
remained No. 1 in Top Sportsman and Dean Dubbin, Royalton, Minn.,
continues to lead in Top Dragster.  Alex Barmettler, Maplewood, Minn.,
moved to the top of the field for Sportsman Motorcycle presented by
Harley Davidson.

NHRA LODRS DIV. 6 FINAL QUALIFYING

Qualifying is complete at the Lordco BC Nationals, a round of the NHRA
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Mission Raceway Park.  Shelton, Wash.,
racer Brandon Johnson drove his Top Alcohol Dragster to the top of the
field and Brian Hough, Junction City, Ore., remained the best qualifier
in Top Alcohol Funny Car.  Terry Spargo of Delta continued to lead the
Top Sportsman class and Burnaby’s Kelly Vos stayed atop the Sportsman
Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson class.

Johnson moved past Delta resident Shawn Cowie when Cowie failed to
improve on Friday’s qualifying run.  Johnson’s 5.360-second, 266.11 mph
pass was enough to move him ahead of Cowie whose best run was 5.371
seconds at 269.94 mph.  Mission resident Leo Grocock and Sumas racer
Bill Edwards Jr. both failed to make the eight-car eliminations field.

Hough did not improve on his initial qualifying pass either but his
5.657-second, 256.77 mph lap was enough to keep him ahead of John
Evanchuk, Edmonton, Alb., who moved from the No. 3 spot to No. 2 with a
5.706-second, 251.35 mph pass.

NEW TRACK RECORD SET AS ROCKY MOUNTAIN RACEWAYS HOSTS AN EXPLOSIVE NIGHT OF RACING

Racing fans were amazed to see a new track record set during Rocky Mountain Raceways’ annual Jet Car Spring Nationals drag race.

Brett Harris broke the Nostalgia Front Engine Top Fuel Dragster record at Rocky Mountain Raceways May 23, 2009.

Brett Harris, of Kaysville, Utah set a new track record for Nostalgia
Front Engine Top Fuel Dragster of 5.889 ET at 204.54 MPH. His father,
Jack Harris, previously held the record of 5.915 ET in 2003.

The most exciting thing was that the car Brett was driving Saturday
night was the same car his father drove when his father set the record.

“Setting a new track record at Rocky Mountain Raceways is great. We
have been trying to do this for awhile now.” said Brett Harris. “We
have really enjoyed Jet Car Spring Nationals. Seeing all of the fans is
the best part.”

The fan favorite of the night was the Jet Cars. Jet Cars have an actual
jet engine that powers the car. The cars have 8,000 horsepower and
average speeds of about 270 miles per hour.

reigning National and Northeast Division Funny Car champion Frank Manzo

four-hundredths of a second lead.  Ferro out ran Marty Nothstein of
Orefield, Pa., in his semi-final match up while Manzo took out Marc
White of Glendale Heights, Ill., in his semi-finals run.

Charlie Greco remained on top in qualifying for the Comp Eliminator

ADRL_Memphis_crowd.jpg

The
National Guard American Drag Racing League (ADRL) came up a little
short in a race with Mother Nature this evening at Memphis Motorsports
Park (MMP), as light rain began falling just as the semi-final rounds
were about to be run at the Quarter-Max Memphis Drags II.

In a
hastily convened meeting with all National Guard ADRL competitors left
in contention, Director of Race Operations Quick Vandiver announced all
semi-finals and final rounds for the Memphis event will now be held
during Friday night’s qualifying session at the next National Guard
ADRL event, June 5-6, at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, MI.

HAGAN EXPECTED TO SUE ADRL

The fur is flying. Despite an official announcement by the ADRL, Motor
Mile Speedway owner David Hagan, has confirmed the ADRL has notified
him they will not run as scheduled on July 4th.

Hagan isn't about to roll over and watch his date be transferred to Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas.

According to Hagan, a series of letters have gone back and forth
between the parties involved, one from the ADRL alleging a breach of
contract for providing an unsafe drag racing facility and one in return
from Hagan, reminding the series they have a year remaining on their
contract.

Hagan contends he has complied with all previous requests from the
ADRL, however this latest move, one he deems as unprofessional, leaves
him no option other than the courts. With the Fourth of July less than
45 days away, there is no chance Hagan can find a substitute event.
And, in his eyes, there is absolutely no reason to even be put put in
the position of having to look.
