SUNDAY FINAL – PROCK, ASHLEY, GLENN AND GADSON WIN HISTORIC NHRA 4-WIDE CAROLINA NATIONALS

The first four-wide playoff race in NHRA history ended with four drivers strengthening their championship bids Sunday at zMAX Dragway. Austin Prock, Justin Ashley, Dallas Glenn, and Richard Gadson collected victories at the 4-Wide Carolina Nationals, solidifying their positions in the Countdown to the Championship.
Prock’s Funny Car triumph led the way, as the reigning NHRA champion powered his Cornwell Quality Tools Chevrolet SS to a 3.912, 332.43 in the final. The win marked his eighth of the year, 16th since moving to Funny Car last season, and 20th of his career. It also completed a season sweep of all three four-wide races, a first for the category.
The victory followed a stumble in Reading, where Prock lost in the second round after crossing the centerline. At Charlotte, he rebounded with wins in the first two quads before reeling in Dan Wilkerson in the final and edging Matt Hagan at the finish line.
“That was a big win, especially after everything that went on in the semifinals when a few of the frontrunners went out and we capitalized on it,” Prock said. “We extended our lead a little bit going into St. Louis next weekend, and there’s only four left. It was good to keep up our performance this weekend and extend our points lead.”
Prock credited his team’s overall package, even if his reaction times were not where he wanted them. “The ‘Prock Rocket’ was on point all weekend,” he said. “I wasn’t my typical self on the starting line. I was good – but not where I wanted to be – but the car ran good enough and our total package was good enough to win.”
Hagan, who qualified No. 1, finished as the runner-up, marking his third final-round appearance this year.

In Top Fuel, Ashley continued to display his skill on the tree, earning his fourth victory of the season with a 3.784, 329.83 pass. He outran Shawn Langdon, Doug Kalitta and Clay Millican in the final, using a .043-second reaction time to defeat Kalitta despite identical elapsed times. Earlier, Ashley posted the first triple-holeshot win in Top Fuel history, advancing past Langdon, Brittany Force, and Tony Stewart in the semifinals with a .036 light.
Ashley’s win was his 19th overall and second in the last three races, moving him to second in the standings, just 38 points behind Kalitta. “Winning any four-wide race, or any race for that matter, is great, but to win it here for the first fall four-wide race in the Countdown, this was a critical day for us,” Ashley said. “The margin for error now is so small. These races are hard to win, so I’m a firm believer in enjoying them when they come before shifting your focus to the next one.”

Dallas Glenn extended his dominance in Pro Stock with a 6.554 at 209.95 in his RAD Torque Systems Camaro, defeating Greg Anderson, Erica Enders, and Aaron Stanfield in the final. The victory was Glenn’s second straight in the Countdown, his sixth of the season, and 19th of his career. He also continued his mastery of zMAX Dragway, winning his third straight race at the facility.
Glenn said his goal was to recover from a mistake earlier this month at Indianapolis. “I knew I had a fantastic car coming in, so I really just wanted to try to keep the momentum,” he said. “I really felt like I let everybody down in Indy when I let my foot up a little against Erica [Enders]. I made that mistake. So, I just wanted to come into this race, and step it up just a little bit more, and be a little more aggressive.”
He added that the points lead requires constant pressure. “I think I have 79 points right now, so I still count that as basically three rounds, because that’s what it’s going to be in Pomona,” Glenn said. “I want to keep my foot on their throats and keep pressure on until they hand me a trophy.”
Anderson finished runner-up with a 6.562, his eighth final of the year, while Stanfield moved to third in the standings but a whopping 172 points behind Glenn.

Gadson delivered the weekend’s final milestone with his first Countdown win in Pro Stock Motorcycle, clocking a 6.803 at 199.55 on his RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines Suzuki. He outran a trio of Matt Smith Racing entries — Matt Smith, Angie Smith, and Jianna Evaristo — with a .015 reaction time to secure his third win of the season.
The result gave Gadson the points lead for the first time in his career, just months after he earned his first NHRA victory. “When you say points leader, I just can’t believe you’re talking about me,” Gadson said. “Sometimes, when I’m at home and I look at the points and even see my name in second place, I have to read it twice because I just can’t believe it’s really me in this position.”
Facing three rival bikes in the final, Gadson said the moment carried extra weight. “You just want to avenge your team,” he said. “You’re racing against three bikes from a rival team, and you don’t want to go up there and do anything stupid. If they’re going to outrun you, then that’s going to be what it is. You just don’t want to beat yourself, and when you’re the Lone Ranger up there racing for your team, you carry it with a little bit more pride.”
Matt Smith finished second with a 6.821 at 199.37, his fourth final of the season. Teammate Gaige Herrera’s early exit left Gadson in position to seize the lead, which he did and will now take an eight-point lead over Smith into next weekend’s race near St. Louis.
The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series continues Sept. 26-28 with the NAPA Auto Parts Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois.
SATURDAY QUALIFYING – HAGAN, FORCE, GLENN AND HERRERA EARN NO. 1 QUALIFIERS AT NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS

Matt Hagan’s four-wide weekend started with a statement and ended with another top qualifying effort. The four-time NHRA Funny Car champion locked down the No. 1 spot Saturday at zMAX Dragway, grabbing his second top qualifier of the season and the 54th of his career.
The performance highlighted a day where championship contenders in all four pro categories staked their claims. Brittany Force in Top Fuel, Dallas Glenn in Pro Stock, and Gaige Herrera in Pro Stock Motorcycle also secured No. 1 qualifying positions heading into eliminations at the 16th race of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.
Hagan’s Friday night pass of 3.891 seconds at 329.67 mph in his Direct Connection Dodge//SRT Hellcat held up through Saturday’s sessions. The run gave Tony Stewart Racing’s star a measure of stability after recent struggles with engine explosions, and he will open eliminations from the top seed.
“We’ve been down the racetrack all four times in every lane and I think that’s a real positive,” Hagan said. “I truly feel like maybe we found that problem that’s cost us a couple blow-ups with the ignition switch, so everything’s looking good on the graphs, and the crew chief seems to be pretty confident about everything.”
Even with the top position, Hagan knows the path to victory Sunday is not easy. He opens eliminations in a stacked quad that includes J.R. Todd, Jack Beckman, and John Smith.
“There’s no gimmes out there,” Hagan said. “You qualify No. 1, and you look at your quad and you’re going, ‘Did we qualify No. 1? Or what happened? Why do we have such a tough quad?’ But it’s Funny Car racing. We all have ups and downs every weekend, and you just have to make every one of these rounds count.”
Ron Capps surged into second with a 3.899 at 329.67 mph in the final session. Points leader Austin Prock was close behind in third after stringing together four consistent passes in the low 3.90s.

Top Fuel qualifying carried its own drama as Force retained the No. 1 position. The two-time NHRA champion clinched her fifth top qualifier of the season and the 57th of her career with a 3.698 at 338.85 mph Friday in her HendrickCars.com dragster.
Force showed strength across all four sessions, including the quickest run in Saturday’s warmer conditions. The consistency has her optimistic about eliminating early round mistakes that have slowed her playoff push.
“Qualifying was outstanding for us this weekend,” Force said. “We had four solid, consistent runs down the dragstrip and we were in the heat both days. The heat is always when we struggle. We’re all very happy with that.”
Force said the next step is translating strong qualifying into race-day success. “We always want to qualify top three, top five, which would be awesome, picking up bonus points and really going rounds on race day. Consistency is key. We have a great car this weekend, so I’m feeling confident going into race day,” she said.
Doug Kalitta qualified second with a 3.700 at 332.18 mph, followed by Steve Torrence’s 3.720 at 331.28. Shawn Reed, coming off his win in Reading and another in an IHRA race the previous weekend, continued his momentum with the quickest run of Saturday at 3.767.

In Pro Stock, Glenn remained the driver to beat. His 6.535 at 209.69 mph from Friday carried him to his second straight No. 1 qualifier in the playoffs and his sixth of the year.
Glenn, the points leader, has now secured half of his career top qualifying positions this season. His dominance continued with two more strong passes Saturday, further establishing his RAD Torque Systems Chevrolet Camaro as the class benchmark.
“It’s been such a fantastic season; this is my sixth No. 1 qualifier and only the 12th of my career, so to get half of my No. 1s in one season shows how good this car is right now,” Glenn said. “I’ve said it before, that I’ve felt I was in the best car I’ve ever been, but I feel like it just keeps stepping up.”
Glenn’s opening-round quad includes Aaron Stanfield, Greg Stanfield, and Troy Coughlin. He will also chase a season sweep at zMAX Dragway after winning earlier this year in Charlotte.
Greg Anderson, Glenn’s teammate and reigning NHRA champion, qualified second with a 6.535 at a slightly slower 209.20. Eric Latino was third with a 6.538 at 208.01.

Pro Stock Motorcycle featured another familiar name on top. Herrera rode his RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines Suzuki to a 6.757 at 201.22 mph Friday, securing his sixth No. 1 qualifier of the year and the 29th of his career.
Herrera, who is chasing the points lead, backed it up with a strong 6.772 Saturday. His opening quad includes Marc Ingwersen, Chase Van Sant, and Marcus Hylton.
“You realize you only have six races left and you’ve got to make them count,” Herrera said of the Countdown to the Championship. “It brings a different excitement to the riders and the tuners, and it gets the guys all fired up. With the four-wide setup, it’s the first time we’ve been four-wide in the playoffs. It’s just a different challenge and you have to have a different mindset going into it.”
Richard Gadson grabbed the second spot with a 6.768 at 201.01 mph. Six-time champion Matt Smith was third with an identical 6.768 at 201.01.
Eliminations are scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. EDT on Sunday.
FRIDAY QUALIFYING – FORCE, HAGAN, GLENN, AND HERRERA GRAB PROVISIONAL NO. 1 SPOTS AT NHRA 4-WIDE CAROLINA NATIONALS

Brittany Force showed both speed and resilience Friday night at zMAX Dragway, surging to the provisional No. 1 qualifying position in Top Fuel at the NHRA 4-Wide Carolina Nationals. Joining her atop the professional leaderboard were Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock), and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle).
Force’s run came just days after she announced that the 2025 season would be her last as a full-time driver.
Force powered her HendrickCars.com dragster to a 3.698-second pass at 338.85 mph, becoming the only driver to break into the 3.60s. If the performance holds through Saturday, it would mark her fifth No. 1 qualifier of the season and the 57th of her career.
The timing was critical for Force, who slipped to seventh in the standings after a second-round exit in Reading, Pennsylvania, to open the Countdown to the Championship. With four championships still in reach, the two-time champion highlighted the unique energy she felt entering Charlotte.
“I don’t know why I had a good feeling about it,” Force said. “I saw the cars out ahead of us going low 3.70s, and I don’t know why it popped in my head, ‘3.69.’ We’ve done it before, and I felt like we could do it, and they told me 3.69 down there on the top end. Sometimes the driver is just in tune and you know what we’re aiming to run.”
She added that racing under the lights made the moment even more intense. “This is such a beautiful facility,” Force said. “To pull up here and it’s dark out, you’ve got lights going all the way down the racetrack, and then, just to see these cars go down the track, flames coming out of the headers – there’s nothing like it.”
Doug Kalitta, the points leader, sits second with a 3.700 at 332.18 mph, while Steve Torrence is third at 3.720, 331.28.

In Funny Car, Hagan rebounded from his Reading troubles – a first-round engine explosion that blew the body of the car in half – with a 3.891 at 329.67 in his Direct Connection Dodge/SRT Hellcat. It was the only pass in the 3.80s and put the four-time champion in line for his second No. 1 qualifier of the season and the 54th of his career.
Hagan, 55 points behind Austin Prock in the standings, credited his team’s effort and attention to detail in preparation for the first day of action at zMAX.
“We’ve had some pretty bad boomers here lately, and they’ve been giving no warning,” Hagan said. “The guys spent 15 hours here yesterday, flying in early, doing all the measurements, making sure the [valve] lashes are right. So, to come out here and make two good runs back to back and then be sitting [No. 1], I’m glad to do that.”
Prock is second with a 3.900 at 327.74, while Reading winner Cruz Pedregon sits third at 3.910.

Glenn, the Pro Stock point leader, kept his momentum going with a 6.535 at 209.69 in his Chevrolet, fresh off his playoff-opening victory. Glenn enters the weekend as the winner of the last two NHRA events at zMAX.
“I felt pretty good coming in here,” Glenn said. “We’ve definitely got a hot streak going, and I’ve got a great car right now. As long as we can keep going up there and keep making good rounds and keep putting pressure on [the competition], we can just let everybody else make mistakes.”
Greg Anderson, his teammate and reigning NHRA champion, nearly matched him with a 6.535 at 209.20, while Eric Latino followed with a 6.538, 208.01.

In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Herrera rebounded from a disappointing Reading finish with a 6.757 at 201.22 aboard his RevZilla/Motul/Vance & Hines Suzuki. It was the quickest run of both sessions and put the two-time champion on pace for his sixth No. 1 qualifier this season and the 29th of his career.
“Coming out here and making two good runs is kind of just what we needed after last weekend,” Herrera said. “I went out in round two, and Richard [Gadson] went out in the semis, and it felt like we just missed it. We were ready to leave that place and come here. We just hope to keep that fast, consistent motorcycle all weekend.”
Teammate Gadson ran 6.760 at 200.26 to slot second, while six-time champion Matt Smith, who won this event a year ago, is third with a 6.768 at 201.01.
Qualifying continues Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EDT, in the second race of the six-event Countdown to the Championship.
