PITTSBURGH RACEWAY PARK SIGNS THREE-YEAR DEAL

The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) announced it has signed a
three-year sanction extension with Pittsburgh
Raceway
Park. The track,
located southeast of downtown Pittsburgh, hosts a Summit
Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by Mr. Gasket event, and beginning in
2007, will be the new home of the North Star Summit Team
Finals.

“We’re thrilled
to see the Tedesco family step up and renew their sanctioning agreement to give
IHRA racers a home in western Pennsylvania,” said IHRA
President Aaron
Polburn. “They continue
to make improvements to their facility and remain one of IHRA’s premier
venues.”

PHIL ESZ WINS PRO TOP OUTLAWS CROWN

In just his first year competing in the Pro Top Outlaw
series Phil Esz captured his first championship.  The series, which is primarily
raced at 1/8 mile tracks, fills the gap between bracket racing and Top Alcohol
or Pro Mod.  It didn’t just happen overnight though, Esz has been in and out of
various racing circuits since he was just 15 years old.  The manufacturers rep
for engine rebuilding equipment went to 9 final rounds and won 6 races during
the 2006 race season.

MIKE COUGHLIN EYES TOP SPORTSMAN CROWN

After finishing a respectable seventh in his first season in the NHRA North
Central Division Top Sportsman standings, Mike Coughlin heads into the 2007
season with a goal of challenging for the series championship. Coughlin debuted
his JEGS Mail Order Chevy Cobalt in late April and found the winner’s circle a
short time later when he claimed his tenth career national event win at the JEGS
NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway.

MMP'S HANGOVER NATIONALS

Only a promoter like Montgomery (AL) Motorsports Park's George Howard could draw
a field of almost 200  bracket and heads-up cars to a race in December where
weather forecasters were predicting 90 and 100 percent chances of rain.

The cars came, and day one of the 7th Annual Hangover Nationals went off
without a delay on Saturday (12/30). The rains did come on  New Year's Eve,
shortening the planned two-day bash.

CHANGES AHEAD FOR JOHN COUGHLIN

John Coughlin's so eager to race that he’s already counting the days until the
start of the 2007 drag racing season. After a modestly successful 2006 campaign,
the Team JEGS driver will enter the new season with a renewed vigor and a pair
of new race cars. Coughlin is in the process of replacing his familiar JEGS Mail
Order Chevy Cavalier Super Stock entry with a state-of-the-are 2007 Chevy Cobalt
and he has also ordered a new dragster to compete in the new Top Dragster class,
which is being contested at NHRA Division 3 events this season.

“I didn't get to race as much as I wanted to last year, but I'm planning on
a much more hectic schedule in 2007,” said Coughlin. “I'm especially excited
about racing in the new Top Dragster class. I've ordered a new car from Kurt
Damron of Undercover Chassis and Huntsville Engines is going to supply the
power. When we get it finished, I expect to run in the 6’s at over 200
miles-per-hour. I'm pretty pumped up about that because I've never been that
quick before. I've run 7.30s in my dragster at bracket races, but I've never
been in the sixes.”
