Elite Motorsports is adding another racer to its expanding NHRA program, announcing Mike Lomas will make his team debut this weekend at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Competition Eliminator.
Lomas joins an Elite Motorsports roster that already fields entries in Top Fuel, Pro Stock, Pro Mod and Sportsman competition. His first event under the Elite banner begins April 23-26 in Concord, North Carolina.
The move follows a breakout 2025 season for Lomas, who earned his first NHRA national event victory when he captured Super Gas at the NHRA Canadian National Open. That result helped position him for a step into one of the sport’s most technical categories.
Lomas will drive a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Competition Eliminator entry with his company, The Financial Guys, serving as primary sponsor for the 2026 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series campaign. He is scheduled for a 10-race season.
The jump to Competition Eliminator is significant. The category has long been regarded as one of NHRA’s toughest classes because of its variety of combinations, constant adjustments and razor-thin margins.
“Following a milestone season marked by my first NHRA Super Gas victory, stepping into Competition Eliminator with Elite Motorsports is a calculated next move,” Lomas said. “As President of The Financial Guys LLC, I’ve built a career on precision, disciplined risk management, and results under pressure—principles that translate directly to the racetrack.”
He said the alliance with Elite gives him access to one of drag racing’s proven organizations.
“Joining the Elite family allows us to combine that mindset with world-class engineering,” Lomas said. “We’re not just here to compete; we’re here to raise the standard in Comp Eliminator.”
Elite owner Richard Freeman said the addition reflects the organization’s roots in Sportsman racing. While the team has become a powerhouse in professional ranks, Freeman said the foundation has never changed.
“Elite Motorsports was built on Sportsman racing, that’s where we started,” Freeman said. “We’ve grown, expanded and become one of the most successful teams in the sport. But we don’t forget where we come from which is why we’re excited to bring Mike on board.”
Freeman also pointed to the importance of Sportsman racers to the overall health of NHRA competition. He said Lomas will race alongside Royce Lee Freeman in Competition Eliminator as teammates.
“The Sportsman series are the grassroots and backbone of the sport,” Freeman said. “We can’t do what we do without sportsman racers. We support quite a few in some different ways but bringing Mike Lomas with The Financial Guys fully under the Elite banner is exciting for us. They’ll be racing with my brother Royce Lee in Comp as teammates so I’m looking forward to seeing them work together.”
Lomas enters Charlotte surrounded by one of NHRA’s deepest operations, including Pro Stock stars Erica Enders and Jeg Coughlin Jr., plus Top Fuel driver Tony Stewart.
For Lomas, the weekend marks more than a debut. It is the next test after proving he can win, and now measuring himself in a category where reputations are built slowly and earned the hard way.
