Three of drag racing’s veterans didn’t need a bat to deliver an upper deck performance at the NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway Park outside of St. Louis. However, this year if they pull it off, they will get a bat to show for it.
Friday night under the lights at World Wide Technology Raceway will feature an added twist for competitors at the NAPA Auto Parts NHRA Midwest Nationals. The top qualifiers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle will receive a special Rawlings “2025 Friday No. 1 Qualifier Top Hitter” bat during the evening session.
The award will be presented after the second qualifying session Friday night, scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. Officials said the bat is part of a baseball-themed celebration at the top end that will include additional Rawlings gear.
The new prize adds a fresh dimension to one of the most popular events of the season. Friday’s “primetime” qualifying has long been a fan favorite for its night conditions, when cooler air and track prep often deliver record-setting performances.

There are two qualifying sessions Friday, with two more on Saturday. Eliminations follow Sunday in what is a pivotal Countdown to the Championship playoff stop.
This year’s schedule also marks a return to tradition. For the first time since 2019, the facility will feature two Friday sessions, giving fans more opportunities to see full fields under the lights.
Track and series officials said the partnership with Rawlings is designed to bring additional entertainment value to an already high-stakes evening. “The driver who makes the quickest pass in each class during the Friday primetime session will receive the Rawlings ‘Top Hitter’ bat,” NHRA confirmed.
Last season, Tony Schumacher picked up the Top Fuel win at the facility, while Jack Beckman scored in Funny Car. Dallas Glenn claimed victory in Pro Stock, and Gaige Herrera extended his dominance with a Pro Stock Motorcycle win.
Qualifying leaders in 2024 also made headlines. Austin Prock was the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car, T.J. Zizzo paced Top Fuel, Erica Enders led Pro Stock, and Herrera doubled up with both a No. 1 qualifying effort and a Sunday victory.
