Dallas Glenn inched closer to his first NHRA Pro Stock world championship Sunday, driving his RAD Torque Systems Chevrolet Camaro to a victory over Aaron Stanfield at the 40th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals. Glenn’s 6.605-second pass at 208.89 mph gave him his seventh win of the season, his first at Texas Motorplex, and the 20th of his young career.
Β
The win, his third in four playoff events, gave Glenn a 60-point advantage over KB Titan Racing teammate Greg Anderson heading into the season’s final two races. Anderson, a five-time world champion, lost in the semifinals to Stanfield.
Β
For Glenn, the milestone win was another reminder of how far he’s come in just five years as a full-time competitor. β€œTwenty wins is like, you don’t realize after over five years how long it’s been and how many wins you have,” Glenn said. β€œI’ve just tried to take everything one win at a time. As soon as we get to the next track, I don’t even think about the last one.”
Β
He also admitted a personal benchmark fuels him. β€œI’ve always had in the back of my mind, Dave Connolly has 27,” Glenn said. β€œI’d really like to get past him.”
Β
Glenn’s win didn’t come easy. He struggled with reaction times early in the day but compensated with sharp adjustments and consistent performance from his KB Titan crew. β€œI hadn’t felt like I was hitting the tree very good today,” Glenn said. β€œSo I made a small move there for the final and just tried to do everything I could. It was good enough to get it done.”
Β
His path to victory included wins over Cody Coughlin, Eric Latino, and defending event winner Jeg Coughlin Jr. before topping Stanfield in the finals. Glenn credited his crew for keeping the car steady under challenging track conditions. β€œYou could see in the semis we were a full tenth off our qualifying effort,” he said. β€œIt shows how tricky it is.”
Β
The Dallas win carried extra meaning, coming on the 40th anniversary of the Texas Motorplexβ€”a track Glenn said has tested him before. β€œI think it’s my second final here, and I let one slip by a few years ago,” he said. β€œTo come here on the 40th anniversary year is definitely special. It’s a cool milestone to have my 20th win on the 40th anniversary.”
Glenn said the win came down to mental preparation. β€œThis track is always tricky,” he said. β€œYou’ve got that late Friday night session that sets the field. We made a pretty decent run and ended up third, then stopped Greg from collecting all the bonus points. I knew we had a good car going into itβ€”it was just up to me to not mess it up.”
Β
Last year, Glenn finished just 11 points behind Anderson in the championship standings, a loss that still lingers. β€œI don’t even remember it as 11 points,” he said. β€œI remember it as two-thousandths of a second because that’s what the final round was. I definitely don’t want to have a repeat of last year. I want to be the 11 points to the good side this time.”
Β
He also praised his teammate’s consistency. β€œGreg’s car is fast, and he always does his job when he needs to,” Glenn said. β€œTo beat him at any point in a race is tough, especially in the Countdown. Throughout the season, his car just gets better and better.”
Β
As the series moves to Las Vegas and Pomona, Glenn said his focus remains simple: stay consistent and let the points fall where they may. β€œI just need to keep turning on win lights, hit all my shifts every run, and try to get every bonus point I can because Greg’s going to take all of them if I don’t,” he said. β€œIf I can continue to do that and have a little bit of luck on my side, I think we can wrap it up.”
Β
This season’s Countdown has been a study in Glenn’s growth as both a driver and a competitor. After learning hard lessons in past playoff runs, he has found a calmer rhythm in 2025. β€œI definitely feel more relaxed this season,” Glenn said. β€œLast year was ridiculously brutal with the same four cars going to the semis and qualifying one through four. It was insane. This year, it feels like it’s me and Greg against the world.”
Β
Stanfield, meanwhile, reached his second final of the year and the 27th of his career after defeating Erica Enders, Matt Hartford, and Anderson. But on this Sunday in Texas, Glenn again proved the championship runs through him.
Β
β€œAs long as I can keep edging out a little bit on Greg and stay relaxed, I think we’ve got it,” Glenn said.
