NHRA has outlined a revised 2026 prize money structure for Top Fuel and Funny Car competitors, pairing event-based payouts tied to qualifying participation with an $850,000 year-end championship fund.

In letters dated Feb. 26 and distributed to teams in the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, NHRA detailed both event purse breakdowns and the season-ending points fund, along with continuation of the Nitro Touring Fund.

At events featuring four qualifying sessions, total purse money will reach $319,000. Winners can earn between $51,000 and $54,000 depending on the number of qualifying runs completed, while runners-up receive between $21,000 and $24,000.

Semi-finalists in that format earn between $17,100 and $20,100, with payouts for second-round and first-round finishers also scaling upward based on qualifying participation.

Five-session events increase the total purse to $386,000. Winners in that structure earn between $96,000 and $100,000, while runners-up receive between $26,000 and $30,000.

Qualifiers ranked 17-18 receive $7,500, and qualifiers 19-20 receive $6,500 under both formats.

NHRA will again distribute a quarterly race team fund to Top Fuel and Funny Car competitors, calculated based on the percentage of qualifying attempts made by each competitor relative to the total attempts made by the field.

The race team fund will include unspent 19-20 qualifier funds and unspent first-round prize money from four- and five-session events. Unspent Qualifier 17 and 18 funds will not be included.

Beyond event payouts, NHRA confirmed an $850,000 year-end championship purse for the top 10 finishers in each nitro category.

The 2026 champion in Top Fuel and Funny Car will earn $500,000, with $100,000 awarded to the runner-up and $50,000 to third place.

Fourth through 10th place will receive descending payouts from $40,000 to $20,000.

NHRA will also continue the Nitro Touring Fund, awarding $10,000 to drivers who finish outside the top 10 provided they meet participation criteria. Drivers must complete the minimum number of qualifying sessions outlined in the 2026 points structure at all 20 events to qualify.

Attendance at the annual Mission Foods Drag Racing Series year-end banquet is required for both top-10 payouts and Nitro Touring Fund eligibility.

The combined structure places increased emphasis on qualifying participation while reinforcing championship-level rewards at season’s end as NHRA prepares for the 2026 campaign.

Additionally, NHRA announced that the team leading the regular season points standings following the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals will receive a $150,000 bonus in each category. The award will go to the points leader at the conclusion of the regular season, providing a substantial incentive as teams transition into the Countdown to the Championship.
